Title: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on August 29, 2007, 11:09:36 AM I didn't see a thread of this nature, so what the heck, why not make one. Find anything news worthy i.e such as company acquisitions, feel free to post them.
News is sorta old but seems like bandai is releasing several big name titles next year. Take a look. http://www.bandai-ent.com/news/pr.cfm?id=128 Interesting Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is dubbed by Animaze/ZRO Limit. Been a while since I have heard a dub from them. Title: Anime News Thread Post by: Galatea on August 29, 2007, 06:39:10 PM Can't wait till the second season of it comes out though, and i've pretty much never even heard of the Animaze/ZRO subbers before.
ZOMG! Haruhi is being dubbed! Title: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on August 30, 2007, 06:36:29 AM Animaze/ZRO Limit is one of the most well known dubbing studios around. Some of their work includes both seasons of Big O, Trigun, and many of the older Gundam OVA's. Sadly they aren't used as much with company Bandai and Geneon using Bang Zoom, sorta Animazes little brother.
Edit: Well this is odd. It seems V Gundam is being dubbed, by Ocean Studio's (well that's not a surprise). I follow dub related news quite a bit but this is the first I have ever heard that V Gundam was being dubbed, and being shown on CN as well. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=1403 Title: Anime News Thread Post by: Wingnut on August 30, 2007, 11:14:31 AM Quote from: 59 Edit: Well this is odd. Not so much as a peep. Someone over there is making stuff up as I can find no other source to confirm their listing in the slightest. Looks like ADV and Geneon called all off their alliance. Geneon will simply be regulating their portfolio i.e Geneon go bye bye. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on September 24, 2007, 02:44:24 PM . . .Geneon go bye bye. Now, now... let's not jump to any rash conclusions, people. It's still much too early to know exactly what will happen at this point. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on September 24, 2007, 03:18:26 PM Well, Geneon's parent company Dentsu is closing down Geneon, so if Geneon is around, it will be very very small, if any presence at all. Like alot of people, I don't want to see Geneon close down, and leaving the rest of Black Lagoon undubbed would be a crime, as the dub rocks all.

Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on September 27, 2007, 09:32:31 PM Nothing confirmed past the Second Barrage, from what I've heard.
Like Gaddes said, Geneon will still be around, just not distributing DVDs or acquiring new licenses. The best theory I've heard (I think it was originally posted by a columnist on AnimeNation) was they'll work on managing their current titles, subcontracting portions of localization and production to different companies. I do hope that Geneon will bounce back from this, given time, but it's still a real blow to the American anime industry. Seems like geneon is ok but they are trying to figure out how to release new and old titles, and thank god the second season of Black Lagoon is still being done by ocean however the problem is how it will be released. At first I was filled with NERD RAGE at the idea of anime-ising Batman, then I noticed they had worked on B:TAS, which could mean it was simply being done by a Japanese studio, which doesn't matter at all. Since I can only find dead links to more than the cover of this "Child of Dreams" thing, I don't know if NERD RAGE is appropriate. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on December 11, 2007, 02:43:52 AM Seems like Bandai is already trying to get Gundam 00 released over here.

Well, there are probably...um...let's call them "reruns" on YouTube, m'kay? Both subbed and dubbed. It' s probably cheaper than renting or buying all 50 episodes. By the way, the dubbed episode 50 from Cartoon Network was missing parts of the beginning and end, so you might have to check out the subbed version of it. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on April 28, 2008, 10:12:51 AM It should have been out about a month ago (dub+sub), but Sojitz/ARMS (the company that acted as a middleman for ADV Films and Japanese license holders) screwed up somewhere resulting in that whole ADV hiatus. And then Gainax wanted more money, apparently.
Since Bandai uses outside studios for all the dub work, the quality varies. The quality is unlikely to be bad, but like you said, Tifaria, they'll probably be a lot of familiar voices, especially for people who watch the anime on [adult swim]. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on May 18, 2008, 11:10:33 PM Quote but they tend to use the same actors over and over and over, you know? Ummm.... ADV does the same thing. Everyone uses their biggest name talents, which is one reason why I miss ADV's old Monster Island Studio, they nearly always brought in fresh voice actors, although their dub scripts tended vary wildly in terms of faithfulness. "He got no game." is a classic example. ADV butthurt is always fun, as it usually results in ADV insulting other companies. Saiyuki: Reload and Gunlock anyone? ADV was literally bat shit insane with anger, that Geneon "stole" the shows from them or insulting their fans, Gantz. Quote which sort of feels like a slap in the face for dub fans. I agree with you on this one. Bandai could have used the ADV dub but, in all likely hood ADV didn't want them to, so Bandai has to create their own L.A based dub from scratch. And I apologize ahead of time if this might have come off as rude. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on May 20, 2008, 07:34:52 PM Sorry for the double post but...

Gundam SEED ended up doing horribly on American TV, after all. And if I recall correctly, 00 requires a bit of knowledge from previous series to full understand the plot. I wonder how previous Gundam series did in the U.S., ignoring SD Gundam, of course. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Mike on May 22, 2008, 09:41:06 PM SEED was a bunch of crap, though.
Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on May 22, 2008, 11:03:34 PM Quote I wonder how previous Gundam series did in the U.S., ignoring SD Gundam, of course. As far as Gundam shows go, Wing was a run away hit. G Gundam did pretty well, the OYW OVA's did ok, the original TV series didn't even get threw one showing (CN said 9/11. but we all know no one was watching). As for 00, it might do ok, I hope it does, cause it's actually really good, second best AU next to X, which bandai really needs to release. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on May 23, 2008, 11:13:14 AM See... that whole "AU" thing will probably keep me from watching. I mean, I'd give it a shot if it's on at a decent time, or there's nothing better to watch. But if I need to use Wikipedia at some point to understand a reference to the Zeon/Federation conflict, I'll probably just get frustrated and drop it.
Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on May 23, 2008, 04:54:57 PM As far as 00 is concerned, not to many references to UC, other than the Tieren looks like a Zaku but that's about it. Also...

Hopefully, Bandai ent, will consider dubbing Super Robot Wars, as dual language, with a higher episode count, and some extras, here's hoping. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on May 23, 2008, 09:10:25 PM I don't expect dubs for what's already been released (though that would be nice), but I'd be surprised if BEI keeps BVUSA's ridiculous pricing format.

If only someone could convince the Japanese license holders from giving 4Kids the rights to any anime, but I guess that's just proof that those companies don't think much of the North American market. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on August 01, 2008, 06:24:06 AM My main beef with the article is that they make it seems like hack-n-slash dubs like 4kids is know to do is the norm, although I think Jsekavis hit the nail on the head, "The changes to hack-n-slash dubs are AUTHORIZED BY THE LICENSOR. ALWAYS." The Japanese companies know about 4kids and their reputation, so I get the feeling they just don't care what 4kids does honestly. Take One Piece, Toei approved and hell even suggested a goodly portion of the OP edits, so they are just as much at fault as anyone.
Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Bllue on August 11, 2008, 05:20:50 AM how did they edit one piece? I mean, the origionals are always gonna be better in by book. I actually really like fansubs, cuz they usually give you a stright translation, without beating around the bush unless that is what the character is doing. If people can't stand the way the original is, is it really worth ripping the face off of a dog to put on a raccoon? I hope you understand my metaphor...

The fact is the writer has no clue what vampires are *period*. So when she writes a vampire novel.... FAILURE. I've seen reinventions of vampires, like in Sci-Fi channel's "Sanctuary". If done right they're awesome... this was done poorly and with no attempt at research into the genre she wanted to write at all. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on April 26, 2009, 11:57:22 PM Didn't notice that Twlight was getting an anime version, and honestly, I can't say I'm surprised.

Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: R. Daniel 01 on April 27, 2009, 08:34:22 PM Oh. I'm sorry if I offended, Bllue! I wasn't being serious.
I just figured, we've been on this or another Big-O board so long, it'd be okay to tease or poke fun. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: R. Daniel 01 on April 29, 2009, 01:40:15 PM Ponyo is coming! In theatres! August 14th. (http://ghiblicon.blogspot.com/2009/04/musings-on-ponyo-us-release.html)

I look younger than I am. I was sixteen and asked if I was twelve... and psssht, I don't get offended, if anything, i do the offending >.> not on purpose, i just have a dry sense of humor... like Schnitzle, only ...worse... ._. So studio Ghibli is still active? I mean, I expected that, but for some reason, I've lowered my expectations from them since Miyazaki retired. But Ponyo looks interesting. I definitely will try and go see it... Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: R. Daniel 01 on May 04, 2009, 03:07:04 PM Yeah, I didn't think you would get angry, anyway.
16 -> 12... that's hard to believe. You must be exagerrating. I wonder, though, about Miyazaki. Cuz as an artist, I mean even if you "retire" from the business, why stop doing the thing you love? I bet Miyazaki is still accumulating little knick-knacks of animation, even in retirement. Or maybe I'm thinking like a young person. Who knows! Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Hobo on May 05, 2009, 06:37:07 AM 16 -> 12... that's hard to believe. You must be exagerrating. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Bllue on May 08, 2009, 07:40:08 PM The sad thing is that I have a twin sister. We went to dinner at one of those Teppan Yaki places, where the chefs cook infront of you, and the chefs talk to you, and ours tried to guess our ages. he got my sister right the first time, then looked at me, said: 12? no... 11?...13?... Higher!? 17? 18?... you are not 20! How old are you? 16? o_o
It is no lie.... and my friends look even younger, mainly because we're all so short. None of us are white, mind you... so maybe you need a wider variety of friends....>.> and at least we're not like in Mei-chan's Butler, where Mei is a highschool ....freshman?.... and I'm not kidding, she looks five. I don't like the manga. watch the drama for that instead, it's much better... Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Bllue on June 28, 2009, 07:16:41 PM I'm double posting for the lack of communication in this area...
I was browsing through youtube and found a song that made me curious (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CzwJ-B3JpxI). It's for a movie called MW-mu-u (last two were in katakana) and I was like :O cuz I saw several actors that i like very much in it. so then I googled! and I found this: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2008-06-02/tezuka-mw-adapted-for-live-action-film-for-2009 and you know what? I'm really excited! I really wanna watch this. If i could i would get my hands on the manga and read that first. so I'm like *.* now. ;D Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on July 05, 2009, 05:18:53 PM Seems Production I.G is involved with a Dante's Inferno anime.

Oh yeah, and they got the original Slayers dub cast back...hellz yeah! Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on July 06, 2009, 12:54:18 AM "Hellz yeah!" indeed. While the ADV cast wasn't terrible, no one can quite match Lisa Ortiz.

Live action Jin-roh? The madness just doesn't stop. However, Jin-roh is one of the few anime where the Japanese actually look Asian, not hyper Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on July 10, 2009, 12:56:02 PM I think there was already a Japanese live-action Jin-Roh, so an American film isn't too much of a stretch. Could be interesting to see another perspective on the story.

Could be interesting to see another perspective on the story. True. The Japanese movie was pretty goofy. Maybe a US version might be pretty decent as well. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on July 14, 2009, 05:15:34 PM If they take the franchise seriously, it's possible. Too bad Hollywood usually doesn't.
Live Action Blood: The Last Vampire earns $110,000 (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-07-13/live-action-blood-film-opens-with-estimated-us$103000) Not too bad for only showing in 20 theaters. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on July 16, 2009, 08:57:30 PM Bandai licenses Kannagi (http://www.nagisamafanclub.com/)
Not only that, but the first two episodes are already available to watch via ANN's free streaming anime service, and the first DVD is available from BandaiEntertainment in the Amazon marketplace. It will also become "in stock" as soon as tomorrow from Right Stuf. The most radically different R1 anime release I can recall in the past few years. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on July 16, 2009, 09:50:14 PM Having scoped out the first two episodes, I have to say I'm glad I don't watch as much Anime as I use to, because it seems Japan is still harping on cut and paste Harem "comedy".
Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: The Final Negotiator on July 22, 2009, 12:30:05 PM 16 -> 12... that's hard to believe. You must be exagerrating. I don't get it, but I'll take your word for it. Adults looking a decade older/younger, that I can understand, though. When Mrs. Negotiator and I attended one of her college homecomings, someone asked her what her major was (she was in her late 20's and graduated)? OK, maybe that guy had a few, but still... The one baseball game we went to, she got a baseball pillow (can't remember if late 20's or early 30's), but those were supposed to be handed out to kids 12 and under? OK, so maybe the guy was being kind, or he was nearsighted, or he had too many pillows... It still makes you think... ;D She often gets asked for ID if she orders alcoholic drinks... Bllue has a twin?!? :o OK, I'm pondering what other color would look cool as a name, especially with double letters in it... Not coming up with any right now... ??? I'm just kidding, Bllue. It's cool... Stay young... 8) OK, now that I'm really off-topic, let me swerve it back onto the road here... I actually don't know what to watch these days as far as anime is concerned... The last anime I saw was Armitage Poly-Matrix & Dual Matrix. Then I got pulled over to Transformer's Animated because of it's homages to anime, the 1980's series, the 1980's movie, and even the 2007 movie. Then I broke from cartoons to watch all things Terminator (3 & 4, and most of TV series)... It funny how many similar new anime series there are now... As I recall, I finished Blue Gender, but was 1/2 through Gurren Lagann, and only 1/3 through Trigun... I'll have to go back to those other two... Update: Back to Trigun... ;D Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on August 12, 2009, 03:33:57 PM http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-08-11/4kids-reports-us$13.8-million-loss-in-second-quarter (http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-08-11/4kids-reports-us$13.8-million-loss-in-second-quarter)
Ouch, 4Kids! isn't doing so hot. Although, personally, they have always been rather insignificant in my book. Title: Re: Anime News Thread Post by: EyeOfPain on August 12, 2009, 10:01:26 PM I'd heard 4Kids was up for sale, but figured that was just a rumor. Considering they no longer have Toonami to prop them up, the loss is quite believable.

Ouch, The final nail in the coffin for ADV. This doesn't come as a surprise though, ADV had done very little in these past few years, but this seems more like a "phoenix manuever" more than anything. Just moving stuff around to different companies and whatnot. Quote So long, ADV. Your titles were a mixed bag, your dubs were terrible, but your enthusiasm was strong. Well said Penguintruth, well said. I think in my collection I have a total of 6 ADV titles and the dubs where awful, yes even their newer dubs where highly overrated. |
