Interesting Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion is dubbed by Animaze/ZRO Limit. Been a while since I have heard a dub from them.

Can't wait till the second season of it comes out though, and i've pretty much never even heard of the Animaze/ZRO subbers before.

Animaze/ZRO Limit is one of the most well known dubbing studios around. Some of their work includes both seasons of Big O, Trigun, and many of the older Gundam OVA's. Sadly they aren't used as much with company Bandai and Geneon using Bang Zoom, sorta Animazes little brother.

Edit: Well this is odd. It seems V Gundam is being dubbed, by Ocean Studio's (well that's not a surprise). I follow dub related news quite a bit but this is the first I have ever heard that V Gundam was being dubbed, and being shown on CN as well.

Looks like ADV and Geneon called all off their alliance. Geneon will simply be regulating their portfolio i.e Geneon go bye bye.

Now, now... let's not jump to any rash conclusions, people. It's still much too early to know exactly what will happen at this point.

Well, Geneon's parent company Dentsu is closing down Geneon, so if Geneon is around, it will be very very small, if any presence at all. Like alot of people, I don't want to see Geneon close down, and leaving the rest of Black Lagoon undubbed would be a crime, as the dub rocks all.

Are there any plans for Black Lagoon past the first 26 episodes?

Nothing confirmed past the Second Barrage, from what I've heard.

Like Gaddes said, Geneon will still be around, just not distributing DVDs or acquiring new licenses. The best theory I've heard (I think it was originally posted by a columnist on AnimeNation) was they'll work on managing their current titles, subcontracting portions of localization and production to different companies.

I do hope that Geneon will bounce back from this, given time, but it's still a real blow to the American anime industry.

Seems like geneon is ok but they are trying to figure out how to release new and old titles, and thank god the second season of Black Lagoon is still being done by ocean however the problem is how it will be released.

At first I was filled with NERD RAGE at the idea of anime-ising Batman, then I noticed they had worked on B:TAS, which could mean it was simply being done by a Japanese studio, which doesn't matter at all.

Since I can only find dead links to more than the cover of this "Child of Dreams" thing, I don't know if NERD RAGE is appropriate.

Child of Dreams was a weird story about ordinary people using steroids or some crap to transform into the Joker, Riddler, Killer Croc, etcetera.

The art was... good, but the story was crap. The story was the writing equivalent of Rob Liefeld's art.

Bruce Timm is Directing all of them and Batman comic writers Brian Azzarello and Greg Rucka, A History of Violence film writer Josh Olson, Batman Begins writer David S. Goyer, The Dark Knight producer Jordan Goldberg, and Batman: The Animated Series writer Alan Burnett are each contributing the script for one of the shorts. So things are looking pretty good so far.

I agree. The biggest reason they do this is to appeal to the "ZOMG JAPAN IZ DA B3ST!!1111" groups of fans, but Fruits Basket meets X Men is an awful idea not to mention the stock and generic anime designs.

The plot is that Xavier's is an all-boy school, except Kitty Pride.  She has to decide to hang with Pyro and his "Brotherhood" or with the misfits, which are apparently the X-Men.

This means that the anime, aside from all the new ways it found to fail, will be reproducing one of the movie trilogy's biggest causes of NERD RAGE, Pyro being at the school.

He was at the school in the movies.... God, Kitty is one of my three least favorite x-women. why her? i think i should be turned in to a X-woman and replace her.

It depresses me that i haven't watched the actual anime yet...

Well, there are probably...um...let's call them "reruns" on YouTube, m'kay? Both subbed and dubbed. It' s probably cheaper than renting or buying all 50 episodes. By the way, the dubbed episode 50 from Cartoon Network was missing parts of the beginning and end, so you might have to check out the subbed version of it. (I say might because, by now, a fixed dubbed version may be available.)

The initial run did cut off the prologue and epilogue, but [as] reran the full episode sometime the following week.

By the way, volume 12 (of 12) was just released.

Seems like Bandai has picked up Gundam 00, but even bigger news, Bandai has picked up Gurren-Lagann from ADV, which is actually a good thing.

Seems like everyone is saying that. Was I the only one looking forward to the dub from ADV?

I haven't watched all of GL yet, but I was looking forward to ADV's dub too.  :(  Bandai's not even releasing their dub until next year so they can rush it out in sub-only format this summer, which sort of feels like a slap in the face for dub fans.  I dunno, Bandai usually does a good job, but they tend to use the same actors over and over and over, you know? 

If it gets GL out faster in this country it can only be a good thing from where I'm sitting. Besides, I prefer subs; it somehow grates a bit less that way if the translation's a bit iffy, at least for me.

It should have been out about a month ago (dub+sub), but Sojitz/ARMS (the company that acted as a middleman for ADV Films and Japanese license holders) screwed up somewhere resulting in that whole ADV hiatus. And then Gainax wanted more money, apparently.

Since Bandai uses outside studios for all the dub work, the quality varies. The quality is unlikely to be bad, but like you said, Tifaria, they'll probably be a lot of familiar voices, especially for people who watch the anime on [adult swim].

Ummm.... ADV does the same thing. Everyone uses their biggest name talents, which is one reason why I miss ADV's old Monster Island Studio, they nearly always brought in fresh voice actors, although their dub scripts tended vary wildly in terms of faithfulness. "He got no game." is a classic example.

ADV butthurt is always fun, as it usually results in ADV insulting other companies. Saiyuki: Reload and Gunlock anyone? ADV was literally bat shit insane with anger, that Geneon "stole" the shows from them or insulting their fans, Gantz.


I agree with you on this one. Bandai could have used the ADV dub but, in all likely hood ADV didn't want them to, so Bandai has to create their own L.A based dub from scratch.

It probably will. Gundam SEED ended up doing horribly on American TV, after all. And if I recall correctly, 00 requires a bit of knowledge from previous series to full understand the plot.

I wonder how previous Gundam series did in the U.S., ignoring SD Gundam, of course.

As far as Gundam shows go, Wing was a run away hit. G Gundam did pretty well, the OYW OVA's did ok, the original TV series didn't even get threw one showing (CN said 9/11. but we all know no one was watching).

As for 00, it might do ok, I hope it does, cause it's actually really good, second best AU next to X, which bandai really needs to release.

See... that whole "AU" thing will probably keep me from watching. I mean, I'd give it a shot if it's on at a decent time, or there's nothing better to watch. But if I need to use Wikipedia at some point to understand a reference to the Zeon/Federation conflict, I'll probably just get frustrated and drop it.

Honestly, I expected this, BV charged 50 bucks for 2 episode, sub only, no extra DVD's. Hopefully, Bandai ent, will consider dubbing Super Robot Wars, as dual language, with a higher episode count, and some extras, here's hoping.

I don't expect dubs for what's already been released (though that would be nice), but I'd be surprised if BEI keeps BVUSA's ridiculous pricing format.

Can't say I entirely agree with the article, but it does address a couple issues that both the Japanese and American industries seem to be finally addressing.

If only someone could convince the Japanese license holders from giving 4Kids the rights to any anime, but I guess that's just proof that those companies don't think much of the North American market.

My main beef with the article is that they make it seems like hack-n-slash dubs like 4kids is know to do is  the norm, although I think Jsekavis hit the nail on the head, "The changes to hack-n-slash dubs are AUTHORIZED BY THE LICENSOR. ALWAYS." The Japanese companies know about 4kids and their reputation, so I get the feeling they just don't care what 4kids does honestly. Take One Piece, Toei approved and hell even suggested a goodly portion of the OP edits, so they are just as much at fault as anyone.

how did they edit one piece? I mean, the origionals are always gonna be better in by book. I actually really like fansubs, cuz they usually give you a stright translation, without beating around the bush unless that is what the character is doing. If people can't stand the way the original is, is it really worth ripping the face off of a dog to put on a raccoon? I hope you understand my metaphor...

Pretty sure Funimation will be trying snag the rights to this ASAP, since it was a huge hit for Funimation, and the dub is still loved by fans, although I find it to be average at best, but I did enjoy Aaron Dismuke's Al, but Vic's Ed was just painful.

Well, that one did some things right, like playing up the performer, and saying "all shapes and sizes." BUT HEY with that Aftereffects zapping, I guess I'm dead now! Guess I won't be going to Sakura-con after all!


Make the appeal more universal but still attractive to hardcore nerds. Spectacle of cosplay (not cosplay for its own sake), delights in art, creativity and imagination on display. Talk up the special guests, whether it be skilled artists or some J-pop singer.

“Come escape for a day of games and fantasy, light-hearted or serious,” or something like that. Show beautiful people and nerdy people both, coexisting without shame, doing various things (even dancing! (NO DDR)). Actual footage from the con would help familiarize potential first-timers.

Say it is International in inspiration, not just Japanese or Asian generally. Emphasize the importance of imagination and of exploring new ideas (the cardinal attraction of anime, after all).

Everyone who HAS read it, who isn't a 13-16 year old girl, complains about it. From all the fundamental issues they bring up, I can't even give Twilight the benefit of the doubt.

I think it's because you expect a classic vampire story, not a reinvented one. I enjoyed it because the author put her heart into it. It's a really good story. the movie is the only thing i complain about...

It's kinda like if Alex Louis Armstrong were a vampire... and not nearly as awesome.

The fact is the writer has no clue what vampires are *period*. So when she writes a vampire novel.... FAILURE.

I've seen reinventions of vampires, like in Sci-Fi channel's "Sanctuary". If done right they're awesome... this was done poorly and with no attempt at research into the genre she wanted to write at all.

Didn't notice that Twlight was getting an anime version, and honestly, I can't say I'm surprised.

On the outside, maybe. Inside? 13. hahaha.

Live action Jin-roh? The madness just doesn't stop. However, Jin-roh is one of the few anime where the Japanese actually look Asian, not hyper Caucasian with blond hair and blue eyes.

I think there was already a Japanese live-action Jin-Roh, so an American film isn't too much of a stretch. Could be interesting to see another perspective on the story.

True. The Japanese movie was pretty goofy. Maybe a US version might be pretty decent as well.

Having scoped out the first two episodes, I have to say I'm glad I don't watch as much Anime as I use to, because it seems Japan is still harping on cut and paste Harem "comedy".

When Mrs. Negotiator and I attended one of her college homecomings, someone asked her what her major was (she was in her late 20's and graduated)? OK, maybe that guy had a few, but still...

OK, now that I'm really off-topic, let me swerve it back onto the road here... I actually don't know what to watch these days as far as anime is concerned... The last anime I saw was Armitage Poly-Matrix & Dual Matrix. Then I got pulled over to Transformer's Animated because of it's homages to anime, the 1980's series, the 1980's movie, and even the 2007 movie. Then I broke from cartoons to watch all things Terminator (3 & 4, and most of TV series)... It funny how many similar new anime series there are now... As I recall, I finished Blue Gender, but was 1/2 through Gurren Lagann, and only 1/3 through Trigun... I'll have to go back to those other two...

Ouch, 4Kids! isn't doing so hot. Although, personally, they have always been rather insignificant in my book. 

I'd heard 4Kids was up for sale, but figured that was just a rumor. Considering they no longer have Toonami to prop them up, the loss is quite believable.

Ouch, The final nail in the coffin for ADV. This doesn't come as a surprise though, ADV had done very little in these past few years, but this seems more like a "phoenix manuever" more than anything. Just moving stuff around to different companies and whatnot.


Well said Penguintruth, well said. I think in my collection I have a total of 6 ADV titles and the dubs where awful, yes even their newer dubs where highly overrated.
