Title: Lose their Memories?
Post by: S.D. on October 13, 2007, 12:46:36 AM
Did the people of Paradigm City lose their memories again following the Second Event? Due to the deja vu nature of the final scene (plus Roger saying it is still a "city of Amnesia"), it is suggested that is the case, but I can't help but wonder. Roger did state in his speech in Act 26 that he would not forget the woman called Angel, which implies he would not forget other things as well.

I don't think they did.
You see Roger driving to work, as usual, but notice that Dorothy and Angel are standing on the corner, watching him go by. That never happened before in the series, so it would show that things were NOT simply rewound back to the beginning, they're continuing on.

Well, people most definitely did not regain their Memories of whatever happned prior to forty years ago, because Roger stills refers to Paradigm City as the City of Amnesia.

Oh yeah, they didn't get that back. But they didn't also re-lose their memories after the last episode.

It seems strange that everyone would be back to 'business as usual' given the bizzare nature of the Second Event.

We only saw what, five seconds of what happened after the event? People probably didn't immediately go back to business as usual. It was probably like the last event, only people remember what happened yesterday.

... are you serious.

Look at the background. This is not what it looks like on Roger's balcony. (http://www.paradigm-city.com/images/ep26/FinalBattle4l.jpg)

Looks like a regular street if you ask me.  Besides Roger balcony wouldn't look that nice after the pink bot invasion earlier but who knows if that was reseted.  More like life goes on kind of ending, Roger will always be the negotiator for Paradigm City.

Definitly not the roof or they would be looking down at roger (lol), however i must object to the fact that the balcony being still screwed up. The whole city was deleted by big venus and then it came back to normal. Also, rogers car got recked as well, but it seems fine now....

I don't think that Big Venus actually deleted the city. It seems more like it was "rebooted" as a way to undo all the damage that had been done to it over the past couple episodes.

Roger did state in his speech in Act 26 that he would not forget the woman called Angel, which implies he would not forget other things as well.

It implies no such thing. In the same speech, Roger also said, as a general statement, "I chose to forget the past in order to live in the present." As a general rule, he forgets. Angel is the only exception he ever mentions.

Hmm, so you think Angel didn't wipe their brains. I always assumed that Angel did wipe Act 26 from general Memory, in order to keep the workings of Paradigm City a secret. You can't defy Big Venus if you don't even know it exists.

Also, I think if the production team wanted to show that the people DID remember Act 26 (and if the Paradigm citizenry would react to that by showing new behavior), the team would've taken pains to show new behavior. Instead, they took pains not to show new behavior. Saying "well if we saw another fifteen seconds, they would've started acting different!" doesn't fly so well with Act 26, where I feel the production team tried to make every second count.

Easy Galatea, you only killed the floppy files. Just kick it out, reboot, breathe deeply and all will be fine... ;D

As for Roger, I think he remembered something, because he hesitated in his narration at the end of Act 26:

"My name is...Roger Smith."

Why did he hesitate? I believe it was because he expected to be dead minutes ago when Big Venus "merged" with Big O. However, he instead found himself behind the wheel of the Griffon, once again negotiating for the release of Soldano's "daughter". He was still in shock, and his narration showed it.

.The Final Negotiator.

Yeah, they may have had the last episode stricken from their memories because it was weird and confusing and involved everyone dying.

What I meant was that they didn't erase the last 40 years, making everyone wake up with ZERO memories, like last time.

Interesting thoughts. I kind of agree with the idea that things had changed in this repetition, but also I haven't even seen an episode of Big O in over year-- two years? More? Eh.
War.

it was a whole new creation--of course no one remebers the previous world. What Roger meant was that the next time he saw Angel he would have some mostly unconcsious feeling about her.
