Title: photobucket - if your a new user - do not want Post by: The Final Negotiator on October 20, 2007, 01:08:10 AM Everyone,
First let me say that if you're a photobucket veteran, you can breathe a sigh of relief. This problem only occured because I set up a new account. In it's registration, it now asks for a cell phone number. They state they will not call it. They kept that end of the bargain. However, somebody text messaged my phone twice about replying to enter a contest. I ignored both, of course, and then did some web research to (hopefully) shut it off. I will be calling my cell company early this morning to make sure no extra charges are posted on my bill. ??? What a n00b I am... So there you have it: photobucket veterans - smooth sailing. noobies - place photobucket on your DO NOT WANT LIST! .The Final Negotiator. UPDATE: No extra charges were posted to my bill. Whew! :) I've learned a lesson - even if needed for verification reasons, some information shouldn't be given out. I've used PB for years and I am sad to see them asking for stuff like that. Was it a required field that you had to fill in? If not then it would be wise to simply leave it blank. Title: Re: photobucket - if your a new user - do not want Post by: DOMON KASSHU! on October 20, 2007, 02:18:01 PM I just checked it. Since they don't specify what is required and what isn't, it is hard for a normal new registrant to tell if it's required or not. But, it is not. So you can breathe safely, they do ask for it, but it is not necessary that you give out your mobile phone number to Photobucket.

Wow, that's like putting ur real name on the internets, not a good idea. why the hell would you give a website your number?! Yeah, it was not exactly my smartest moment, considering I have safeguards on my other accounts and information. I thought it was strictly used to prevent people from cheating the system with multiple accounts. According to their "Terms of Use" and "Privacy Policy" they don't give out information, and I didn't see any clause about any "partners" contacting me. Vegeta, I think you had the right idea about partially posting information. Next time if they don't specify the "need to know" information, I'll experiment with as little information as possible. Thankfully, I found a way to delete the number from the system, and confirmed that I erased it. Title: Re: photobucket - if your a new user - do not want Post by: DOMON KASSHU! on October 30, 2007, 01:39:52 PM No problem. Generally when websites ask for private information, you should try to get away with telling them as little as possible about yourself.
