Title: The Big O Manga -- Discussion
Post by: Professor Vogler on January 12, 2008, 07:58:15 PM
Well, I wanted to make a thead to talk about The Big O manga (vol. 1-6) and the two books in Lost Memories.

I've got all 6 volumes in the Big O manga, and I absolutely love them. It's a very interesting view on the potential problems within Paradigm City, especially when it comes to Memories.

My biggest concern at the moment is this piece of "news" I found.
http://www.viz.com/products/products.php?series_id=28
Apparently the Big O manga (Vol 1-6) has only JUST been discontinued by Viz Media in September of 2007.

So anyone who's interested in buying the Manga, you might want to do so before stock sells out.

Additionally, I've been recently searching for the two "Lost Memories" manga, but I can't seem to find any place that sells them. I know they're in Japanese only (beggars can't be choosers), and there's only two volumes in that series... but I want them to complete my manga collection.
If anyone's got an idea where I could purchess them, please let me know ;)

discount anime is a DVD and CD only site..... and Animeoutlet doesn't exist.

I've got the ISBN numbers for the two tho... maybe I can special order them from a store in town.

How much difference is there between the manga and the TV show? I guess extra detail, but are there completely different storylines and events in the manga?

From what I understand, the manga in parts seems to follow an almost completely different outer story, while still at heart being 'Big O.' But that's only secondhand information on my part, so who am I to say?

That's good. If this "store" off yours is a den for elite Read or Die bounty-hunters, knowing the ISBN is instant get.

That website does not exist.

...And "lost memories" isn't a doujin.

The manga was done by a different team than that which wrote the anime episodes, and it was begun after the series was in production (although the first two stories were scheduled to come out before "Roger the Negotiator" was aired, so they were written to be Dorothyless and thus like nothing in the series). Roger is drawn a good deal younger (he looks like a late teen), Dorothy is much less sarky, Angel is more of the primary villian, and Schwartzwald has a pretty large part, postmortem.

Beck has a more important role overall as well, I think. Also, the ending is completely different ***ZOMG SPOILERS*** Dorothy is still cannibalized for memories to run Big Fau, but Angel pilots it and then runs off. Alex never pilots a Big, there is no reset, and it's less trippy without being any more conclusive: not even the manga gives us closure! Big Venus doesn't show up, but there's another Big, I can't remember the name but it's blue and comes from the ocean (much like Osorail). We get to see pre-burn Michael Seebach.

The manga was... okay. I tend to prefer them over animes in general, but for Big O, the show was definitely better. It did offer a few nice bits and pieces that compliment the show. I'll see if I can post a few clips later.

That's exactly correct.

What, don't follow? Allow me to explain.

They named it Big Blue.

ummm yes it is. MASA the doujin group makes it. i have the first one and right on the inside cover it says "Not a licensed product completely fan made with premission to print" plus it was never comfirmed on any major Viz or Bandai site. not even fan made ones. the only printing companies that have printed it are doujin press and fan press, major doujin companies.

Didn't people post them before?
...or did that turn out to be illegal?

Illegal = yes. But you know, just a panel or two isn't bad.  Putting up the whole book or entire pages is pretty bad.

... there's nothing wrong with a little pm or email action, though, right? I mean, assuming you're just pointing out web sites so that you know where not to go, lest you accidentally download something.

So long as it isn't public, I'm pretty sure Finale and Xel wont be upset.

I couldn't stop anyone without my hypocrisy alarm going off, but yeah.
