Title: Gunnm / Battle Angel Alita
Post by: The Final Negotiator on April 22, 2008, 12:15:07 PM
I listed both titles. The animation was good, considering it's age. The writer/animators did a decent job of condensing the plot of two manga volumes into two half-hour episodes. However, as as you might have guessed, some good stuff gets thrown out. Sort of a sad conclusion, considering the almost-overly happy beginning.

Now I hear that James Cameron is writing a Battle Angel movie for 2009:

Didn't he already cover small female dynamo characters in Dark Angel?!?

Maybe this is his "Dark Angel" movie?

A friend of mine mentioned the show a couple weeks ago; even tried doing a search for "gunm," but nothing came up.

Based on a few screenshots I've seen, looks like a lot of action. The manga was done by Masamune Shirow, wasn't it? Or am I just mistaken?

It's possible, since the "Dark Angel" TV series took some weird plot twists near the end of it's run that might be difficult to undo.

He needs an extra "n", that's all. It's "Gunnm" (pronounced "Gan mu" in Japanese, and meaning "Gun Dream").

Wikipedia and Amazon have Yukito Kishiro as the creator of the manga series:

Also, I PM'ed you the links that I found...

Ah, I see. Thank you.

I would have never guessed "Gunnm" would have an actual translation, though.

Heh, didn't even notice the PM until you mentioned it. Again, thanks.

Yeah, it's usually not found, except for Inuyasha (Inu=dog, Yasha=spirit). I first thought "Gunnm" was the name of the main character, and thought it sounded like a strange name. Now that I know the meaning, it's still strange, because there are no guns in the stories. Weapons yes, but no guns. You're welcome and you're welcome.
