Title: The Brothers Big
Post by: CyberXIII on September 05, 2008, 08:25:16 PM
I've often referred to the Megadei as having genders, especially the Bigs.  My question is: could the three Bigs be considered brothers, almost?  Also, some of the Megadei seem to be male or female.  Thoughts?

Nearly all of the Megadei seem masculine to me. The Bigs in particular even have pointy pelvises that, to me, look pretty phallic, (unintentionally I'm sure). The only femenine robots would be the Waynewright Megadei, seeing as how he's a lecherous old man and all.  ;)

Just because he was crazy enough to build a body that resembled his daughter, and then call the sentience that inhabited that body his granddaughter, and also built a giant robot named after his daughter, and probably built another giant robot that was chic-deus, doesn't mean he was that lecherous. =P

I don't know, one of them definitly seemed feminine to me. I have to go remember which one.... it was a white one....

Big Venus? ...but that's a stretch.  Big Venus is hardly feminine in design. It's pretty much Big O with one or two cosmetic changes (oh and the powers of God).

Actually, Roger does refer to Big O as a "he" at least once.  And I think he was talking about Fau (with his pink highlights :D).

Holy cow. He said Big Venus right there. He was agreeing that Big O was masculine representation.
Make it so.

You have some interesting ideas CyberXIII.  I never thought of the megadei as having gender although come to think of it they do look masculine.   Have you ever noticed how much the megadei, especially Big O and Big Fau resemble their pilots?   Even Big Duo began to resemble Alan Gabriel after a while.

Yeah but in the manga Big Fau is piloted by Angel. So although we can say "Big O is a 'he'", it's more constructed appearance. I think the reasoning behind they're masculine appearance (aside from the obvious "Giant Mech show for young boys") is that the Bigs are weapons... and arguably the most intimidating appearance in battle is masculine. To be blunt as far as feminine giant robots go nothing I've seen is terribly more intimidating that seeing Big Fau's masculine face (and protruding chin) in your monitor before you're about to be knocked underconscious by a 20 foot circular saw.

There seems to be an interesting concept that goes with this. However, since Alan was not meant to pilot Big Duo, it probably shouldn't have resembled him in the first place. But this is true for Alex Rosewater, but, he was not the pilot initially (it still resembles him anyway). Was the original Big Duo supposed to resemble what was the former Michael Seebach? No one can figure this out unless we have more information.

What about all of the copies that are seen in Roger's flashbacks? Like, the fleet of Big Duo's in the sky, and an army of Big O's in what appears to be marching. They all can't possibly be piloted by the same person that resembles that big.

Both Duo and Schwarzwald have fairly pointy heads.  They're soulmates.

The Bigs also seem to have a special connection, almost like brothers.

You mean when Fau went crazy and Big O put its hand on Fau's shoulder?

Well, that and the familial resemblance between all four Bigs.

Ha. What you call a "familial resemblance," I call "being part of the same design series." I don't think the show played up the idea enough to say they're like brothers. Then again, I suppose it doesn't really matter either way.

if they're the same design series, then would that mean there are other series?

Dagon, the Leviathan and the Phantom would each fall into another design series.
