Title: TV Tropes Post by: R. Daniel 01 on August 12, 2009, 11:14:35 PM Have you heard of this site? TV Tropes.com (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BrokenBird)
It's massive and delicious. It's about TV in general, but it ties directly to a lot of anime. This is a pleasant surprise, but not really surprising. Hours I have spent surfing and discussing its entries. Title: Re: TV Tropes Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on August 13, 2009, 02:59:27 AM lol I love that site. One of my personal favorites is the one on the Katana, and how it's cutting power is GROSSLY exaggerated. A Samurai's Lamellar(Leather and Plate) Armor and Scale Armor easily stopped Katana cuts, provided it was the chest plate or the helmet. Ninja's Maille Armor also easily stopped a Katana.
Title: Re: TV Tropes Post by: Wingnut on August 13, 2009, 11:14:07 AM Oh yes. I often go there and use the various tropes when communicating online, sometimes to the annoyance of those I'm talking with.
I find it particularly cool when a trope is named after something I was already quite familiar with, or came from a favorite show of mine. And yes, there is a page for Big O (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TheBigO). Title: Re: TV Tropes Post by: R. Daniel 01 on August 14, 2009, 11:04:25 AM lol I love that site. On the subject of martial arts stereotypes, my favorite would have to be The Law of Conservation of Ninjutsu (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConservationOfNinjutsu?from=Main.ConservationOfNinjitsu). Looking up the katana article lead me to the Tropes list of Japanese sword-types. It was more succinct than the Wikipedia equivalent. I also like the one, All Japanese swords are Katana's trope as well. For fun, tell a Japanophile that Japan once used double edged straight bladed Jian style swords and Chinese styled armor. They will blow a gasket. Title: Re: TV Tropes Post by: paul1290 on August 14, 2009, 06:01:44 PM It's one of those sites you can spend hours reading.
