Title: AnimeLegends Big O 2 Complete Collection
Post by: DarthPez on August 22, 2007, 10:18:01 PM
I had posted about the AnimeLegends Big O release on the Paradigm City forums before they were closed down, after noticing a change in background music from the old theme song to the new theme song in Episode 7. While it was not enough for me to return the DVD set, it has made me wary of buying the second season, which was released yesterday.

I could always hunt down the old individual releases, although in the long run it would be cheaper and much easier to buy this new set. I don't think I want it though, if there are any more music changes like the first DVD. I figure they are going to put the new theme song in over Respect, but does anyone know if there are any changes within the show itself?

Somebody had mentioned episode 17 using the Respect music in the background, so if anybody who has the set can check, I would appreciate it very much.

The Respect music is most definately there... and so is the Big O music in the Dagon episode.

The Big O season1 boxset and Big O season2 boxset have not been "tampered" with. The only thing NOT in the season2 boxset is the Respect opening/Season2 opening (as seen on TV and Paradigm-City.com).

I think it's just the International Boxset that has the changes... which are rather stupid changes in my opinion.

Yeah, I got my anime legends Big O II boxset today. I was a bit confused when the opening music came on. I'm not too keen on it. I actually prefer the adult swim opening theme song. Otherwise it's alright. I'm was just happy to actually find the second season on DVD. The first time it was released on DVD I was an idiot and didn't purchase it right when I saw it. It was gone the following day. So at least I can check off one of the things on my list to purchase before I die!  ;D

I saw this at Best Buy a few days ago. So other than having the Respect piece of music, does it offer anything else? Maybe some neat new extras, cause it sounds like Bandai trying to make a quick buck.

Unfortunately, no interesting extras...just a production gallery. :'( Not even a damn commentary, that would've cleared up a lot. It's pretty bare bones. I wonder if the complete collection has more special features, too bad it's out of print.

Hmm, none that I recall. I guess if people are really curious and no one else has a copy of the first complete collection for season 2, I could check.

Happy to hear the season issues are untouched. I will try to buy those instead of the "international" set.

Watched the first two acts, and caught a bit of the third's intro. No hint of a new song, and the one from S1 AL just seems way off. :(

I just ordered the recently released Anime Legends seasons 1 and 2 sets. Do these have the original theme music, like in the Japanese version? Or the newer song?

It's not a deal-killer for me, but I am familiar with the original so it would be nice to have that.

Nope, just the new theme, sadly.

Oh well. Did they at least have the decency to retain the graphics/animations?

Yeah, I've only watched the first three or so episodes from the new S2 AL set, so I'm probably not the most knowledgeable on the subject, but they did include the original psychedelic opening animation.

Again, I could have sworn there would be a new opening theme for S2. Did Bandai screw this release up as well?

The cover art for the box sets looks much neater than mine. I wish I could buy these Anime Legends DVDs for the sake of showing my support for the series, but I honestly can't justify it seeing as how I already own the two seasons, money is short, and there are many other things I want.

There's a ton of anime I'd like to buy as well, but I still managed to pick both up, and I still plan on keeping my old boxsets as well. At this point, It's the only way I feel we can show Bandai that there are still committed fans of TBO out there.

No need to capitalize, but that's a small complaint. Anyone who hasn't obtained any version of the series ought to pick up the AnimeLegends Big O, but I honestly don't think you'll convince people like me who already own both seasons.

I received these two sets yesterday in the post and I had a chance to glance at them last night. The opening theme music has definitely been changed (yuck!) but otherwise it seems intact. I really don't like Roger's & Dastun's voice-overs in English (both are indescribably awful), so I think I will be watching them in Japanese with subtitles, which is a nice option to have. Another plus is the ability to skip over the stupid FBI warnings, etc, and going directly to the main root menu (nice feature!). The transfer of the visuals is great, no jaggies or anything, and the colours are vibrant and strong.

Anyway, this is my only copy of the series so I am glad to get it finally, and I guess I can live without the original opening theme.

Got more devotion than me then.
