Title: Happy 71st anniversary to "The Wizzard of Oz"
Post by: The Final Negotiator on August 12, 2010, 08:20:46 AM
Since we wouldn't have "R. Dorothy" without first having "Dorothy", here are a couple articles commemorating the 71st anniversary of "The Wizard of Oz"...

Happy Anniversary, The Wizard of Oz! (http://newsfeed.time.com/2010/08/12/happy-anniversary-the-wizard-of-oz/)
The Wizard of Oz: 71 facts for the film's 71st birthday (http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2010/aug/12/the-wizard-of-oz-google-doodle)

In addition, Google has also created a doodle for the "The Wizard of Oz", which you can view on their main search page. I have fond memories of watching the film as a child, and to this day, I continue to enjoy it at every viewing. Just remember - there's no place like Paradigm...there's no place like Paradigm...

P.S. A little trivia - The Connors in the 1st season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles choose the last name of "Baum", from "L. Frank Baum" the author of the "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" novel. Sarah explains that she chose this name because she used to read "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" to John when he was a young boy. Awesome.
And what is amazing is that Big o has so many Parallels to The Wizard of Oz. Besides just a character named Dorothy. The wizard is real folks, and still just as much of a sham. The cowardly loin isn't a cat and won't use guns, the tin man is a double persona, as Dorothy can be both at the same time.

I can't decide if the witch is Angel or Vera. Someone help me figure that one out.

"Who needs courage when you've got... a gun?"

It's Alex. And Alan Gabriel is his Winged Monkey.
Gordon is Glenda. I don't care if it's his father and this messes up the relationship between the two witches, he is so totally Glenda!

Glinda the Megadeus is not Glenda. Get that through your heads.

Norman is the leader of the blue country.
"Welcome to Munchkin Land, sir!"

Too bad there's no "black country" in Oz. Eh.

And Inspector O' Reilly is Tick-Tock. You can't stop me.
