Title: Anime Rumor Control Office
Post by: Randolf on August 22, 2010, 09:41:57 AM
I hereby declare the opening of the CoA Anime Rumor Control Office. In this thread shall rumors regarding anime-related matters be put forth for confirmation or sound debunking.

To begin (as per Vogler/Evan's suggestions):
- Neon Genesis Evangelion Live-Action Movie is now in production. (supposedly true, but waiting for further confirmation)
- A Full Metal Alchemist Live-Action Movie is being produced by Disney.

If you know anything proving these true or false, speak now. If you hear any further rumors, speak of those as well.

That is all.

I know rumor of an Eva LA movie...but for more details I'd have to pull out my Eva DVD...

...so when I do that I'll...*falls asleep*

According to IMDB, Evangelion live-action movie is set for 2012. Mother of God! Let the world or society fall apart in 2012.

^lol, ouch.

So Disney is really doing a LA FMA movie? Great, next they'll do Kingdom Hearts and I will be permanently mentally scared. SoraxRiku fan girls shall rejoice, and I will die from fan girl attacks. Better get the logic gun ready *goes to search in attic*.

Actually, I'm surprised they haven't done an LA Kingdom Hearts yet, considering they already basically own it (let's face it, in KH, Disney is about three times more prolific than Final Fantasy).

Who the hell knows, it might not even be half bad if they did. Everybody thought KH would suck like suck-knows-what when it was announced. That turned out (mostly) false.

I think.

This was before everybodys time, but we had one of them on here once and I posted a public service announcement

Quote
Stage 1 is a mild flu, you'll think it was something you ate.

Stage 2 is something like pneumonia, but with intense headaches. This is your brain adjusting itself to recieve and transmit incredibly high pitch sound waves, which is how that species communicates.

Stage 3 hits you like a ton of bricks. You'll develop an insatiable craving for bone marrow, furthermore you'll notice you no longer see colors in the visible spectrum, but rather in complete infared.

At stage 4, you begin writing slash fanfic. It starts off casually, soon you're doing it in your sleep. If you wake up next to a stack of papers, you know stage 5 is next.

Stage 5 is when the higher brain functions cease. You are now one of them.

There are only two known cures. Ingesting large quantities of molten zinc, or killing the original fangirl. These are usually protected by six to seven of their kind. The head is your target, once you destroy the brain of the leader the rest of the swarm falls.

I've heard about the live action EVA movie, but a live action FMA? That's news to me.

Isn't there going to be a live action GITS? Or was that just fan boys hoping for something to fap to?

This is all I could find

My understanding though is its pretty common for studios to buy up the rights to properties just in case

Periodically leading to stuff like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fantastic_Four_%28film%29#Production

I ignore these movie rumors. Either they are bad or they lack what made the original interesting.

For Akira fans this. (http://blastr.com/2011/02/rumor-of-the-day-james-fr.php)

Title: Re: Anime Rumor Control Office

On that subject

Apparently Akira lost a potential actress to a remake of the wizard of oz. (http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2011/02/mila_kunis_melts_for_role_of_w.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+nymag%2Fvulture+%28Vulture+-+nymag.com%27s+Entertainment+and+Culture+Blog%29)

I've never seen akira, and the wizard of oz does nothing for me, so this news is sort of lulling me into a state of apathy so severe I think a black hole might spontaneously form.

Well you're wrong about everything because you haven't seen Akira, and it's awesome. Sorry. Might want to rethink every single decision you've made up to this point.

I saw a couple of minutes of it, the whole "body horror" genre doesn't do much for me.

I've seen The Fly so really, that seems sufficient.

lawl. Good point.

Well, Akira was all action-packed and hardcore, with some inscrutably vague and mysterious theme beneath. Even though it's ridiculous, it felt like hard sci-fi. That's why I liked it.

From what I heard the subtext was some manifestation of the collective neurosis japan has over the bomb/ww2.

In fact isn't there some manga where its, like, denial of the rape of nanking.

You could say that about 95% of anime in existence.

Yeah as I've mentioned, it's always hilarious when an animu involves Japan being the sole bulwark against some kind of global threat considering they have no military really.

Well, they have high-tech industry and were until very recently the second largest economy in the world. They also have a population a third the size of ours. It's not inconceivable for Japan to matter.

While it isn't anime I heard a webcomic was getting a live action weekly webcast. Or something like that.

I can think of..two..maybe three things where that wouldn't be horrible
And no I take that back they would be lame as "webcasts" instead of comics.

We have this. It's called Penny Arcade. Blaminations, specifically.

That and developing some sort of super secret weapon, usually a mecha of some sort, and all the super duper evil countries want it for themselves.

Ok I think it's the comic called Dragon stone. Dragon wrath. IDk but it's got some good actors so far. I can't remember the name. and the blog I learned this from doesn't have a good archive?

Pretty much all of Japan, actually.

Only manga I've read (or even heard of that acknowledges the massacre, unless I'm forgetting a series the translator/editor mentions) is The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. They even have a case that involves the ancestors of Unit 731 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit_731)

So according to some ad I just saw on the internet, FLCL is being re-released (or just was, according to amazon)

This time it's all on one disc, or at least in one box, which makes sense since it's only six episodes, instead of that asinine two per disc deal they had going when I got two volumes (I don't think they had the first..then I'm like 70% sure they went out of print, but I really have absolutely no idea). So..thats slightly annoying.

Oh yeah it's also on blu-ray if you've decided to make that lifestyle choice I suppose.

The whole "monkey cheese random lololol" thing is generally used as a crutch

Also really the guys other work, the comics, didn't do much for me either so its not just that show.

Flame me all you want, but Invader Zim is way overrated in my book. I personally don't mind random humor, but Invader Zim did nothing for me.

Eh, to each there own I guess.

Am I the only one thinking it's weird how Japan has suddenly released 7 or more Big O models in the last 3 months, but only in Japan, after they said no more where going to be made?

A Griffin model, a small Big O model with a tiny Dorothy figure and a Big Duo with Shwarzwald are the ones I have found. Supposedly according to a Japanese blog there are 4 others.

Japan, why you fuck with Americans brains? We didn't mess with you as bad as we did the Chinese, but still you mess with our brains.

I think the guy who created Kiss Players tried to play it off as "Gaiz, I did it for the shock value, totally!"

In other new's According to ANN and other sources, Screen Gems is going to produce a Devil May Cry movie.

Being as facebook decided to become an asinine whore of a thing, and make me go complete a 'security check" to login from my other computer, I can't go try and wring this info out of a person who probably knows how movie options/development works

But from what I've seen, anecdotally, properties are just bought up as a matter of course. Somebody goes "Oh hey people seem to like this, we should option the rights". Whether or not they ever get around to actually doing it is, seemingly, another story.

So its possible they just never started production at all. That probably applies to a lot of things in this thread.

Or hell, hasn't there been an "upcoming" castlevania movie forever? Some executive recognized the name, figured it might make some cash sooner or later, and decided to snap it up before the competition.

edit: Silent Hill, I'm like..80 to 90% sure, experienced a similar thing where for the longest time there were rumblings "oh they'll make a movie" and then years and years later it came out. I dunno because I was actually avoiding any news about it, dreading the outcome...which...I ended up being surprisingly pleased with all things considered.

The gist of this is they're planning to, I guess remake, ghost in the shell: solid state society but in 3-d. Or the wording of the article sounds like remaking, unless they just mean redoing the visuals to conform to 3d.

So that..sounds needless and open to being botched

Oh yeah, they created lots of stuff after the American series ended after 3 seasons, 1 movie, and 1 mini-series (which would have been the 4th season):

An OVA - Scramble City - which basically forgot the 1986 movie. Then TF:Head Masters, which I just finished watching, and wasn't too bad. Then Master Force, which I'm currently watching, but heard it's meh. Then these...
TF:Victory (heard good things about), Beast Wars & Beast Wars Neo (heard it's good - except for the bad Neo fandub, which is still so bad it's funny), Beast Machines, Car Robots (AKA Robots in Disguise - meh), the Unicron Trilogy (Armada / Energon / Cybertron), and finally TF:2010, where they finally acknowledge "Oh yeah, that 1986 movie did happen"...

Meanwhile, we've got the movies (slightly above meh...slightly), TF:Animated (OK), and TF:Prime (Just saw 5-part pilot, but awesome start...). I love how Bay never greenlighted Arcee in 2007 because, scaled-properly, she would be 9' tall, and how could that work? So, what do Kurtzman/Orci put in TF:Prime? A 9' Arcee that transforms into a motorcycle. Ha! Of course Bay had no qualms about making an Optimus Prime that looks like Energon's Rodimus... TF:Prime has also got Winston Zeddemore in it, and that's a plus...

Kiss Players looks like a pervert's Binaltech/Alternators. I wouldn't touch it with a 10' cattle prod, which I'm certain probably shows up in its pages. :)

Yeah, Sunbow, who also drew the 1980's GIJoe (but not the movie, which was beautifully animated by Toei). Granted, I only finished Scramble City OVA & Head Masters so far, but I still find, even when keeping an open mind, I mostly like the American characterizations...

Two Takara toy lines - one which was supposed to contain mini Micronauts pilots (ex. 1984's Optimus), and one line of everyday items (ex. 1984's Soundwave) - were merged together by Hasbro, who then wrote the entire backstory. (Hey, I guess they made the 1st TF ret-con...:))

Because this (http://geeks.thedailywh.at/2011/02/26/geek-news-official-trailer-of-the-day-3/#comments) deserves it's own post.

Mmmm, I guess...if you like that sort of thing...snarf snarf... Just kidding! It looks awesome...

Because even though it isn't anime you still have to watch it (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkWHud5fM0I&feature=player_embedded).

Y'know, in the few times I've seen Power Rangers, I've never really been a fan of their hyper-speed ownage. I'm more of an old-school Ultraman smackdown man myself.  However, I like this concept...an epic Power Rangers battle... Cool... OK, they gained a couple cool points from me. Just a couple...

This is my entire familiarity with that show

They should re-dub the first movie using whoever did the majors voice in the series and the second movie

Because the voice actress they got for the first one sounded like she was nearly overdosed on valium, its just like this flat monotone for 90 minutes.
