GURREN LAGANN -- WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK IT IS?!

This series is f@$%ing amazing! Not only is it an anime with great mecha, but the characters are thought out so incredibly well, the plot of the story is unique and mindblowing, and there's a perfect balance between silly and serious... I almost was in tears twice while watching this series. Shocked I've got to thank Kaura for alerting me to this series. Wink

I cannot find anything blatantly wrong with Gurren Lagann in the slightest. It's only 27 episodes long (currently 26 have been aired in Japan), making it a short series but every episode is worth it (except for the recap episode Tongue ). This series almost beats out Big O in my heart now!

In series related news... the official soundtrack will be released October 3rd of this year (2 CDs). I'm also trying to find more information on a reported "sequel series" that may or may not be made... (quote from AnimeNewsNetwork in 2006 announcing Gurren Lagann: "[...]Aniplex director Koichi Natsume suggested the show may get "multiple sequel series".)

Well, I've seen a few episodes, and it is fairly enjoyable, just not a huge fan of Gainax. Pretty sure it will be snagged up by ADV soon enough.

I can't say I've had bad experiences with Gainax, but I can tell you that if there was once a bad stigma it does *not* apply to Gurren Lagann. The series is amazing.

I coulda sworn ADV already picked TTGL up, but I might be mistaken.

First episode was hilarious, waiting for an R1 release.

Holy moly. I YouTube'd it, watched the first episode. I should probably just buy the box set right now.

It's... like FLCL, except with a story, and with self-control and sense... it's like FLCL was the practice run for doing this show. This show looks and feels legit. to me, even when it's being silly.

Stylish presentation like FLCL, check. Absurd, clever ideas and action sequences, check. Murky plot and weak logical continuity--brzzt wrong.

(There's just one thing that irritates me: Yoko. The fanservice hurts my eyes.)

The fanservice is awesome. This show is awesome. I'm so glad someone told me to watch it. I think Veoh has full episodes of it on there.

*cough* We can't give out links to download sites on the forum (I think that rule has been carried over from PCF).

But there are bit-torrents (as expected). So, yah.

Also Yoko = Angel, but shorter shorts Grin

Veoh's not a download site. It's like Youtube, only better. Here. Veoh.

Just finished watching it up to episode 14.

So, evanASF...

Should I start listing all its amazingness, point by point?

Watch episode 15 first. Then, list with excessive detail how insanely awesome this show is.

Just warning you though, 17-27 are epic, however it's like a different show (but still unbelievably frakkin awesome)

Okay. Well, give me a day or two. Watching the last 10 episodes in a row a)removed my Saturday afternoon, and b) drained my brain. It's difficult to process so many intense images stacked atop one another. When I close my eyes, it's all I can think about, all I can see.

Please everyone, watch Gurren Lagann responsibly.  Wink

Okay, I keep hearing how ZOMGAWESOME this show is, but honestly, the first episode kind of underwhelmed me.  Maybe my expectations are too high from all the hype?  It's shiny and all, but the story didn't really grab me.

It's shiny and the action is nice and distracting, with none of the sketchy crap of FLCL or the emo angst of Eva.

Heh. I think one thing you have to keep in mind that the guys saying "Holy crap!" are all guys. It feels like a very guy-centric animé.

Yeah, I'll get back to listing why the show's awesome. Give me time.

Fair enough.  I've heard a few girls give it a thumbs-up as well, so perhaps further viewing needs to be done before I dismiss it entirely.
