I turned on my laptop this morning and got the "your battery will still charge, but will probably completely crap out on you in a couple weeks. Go and spend $300 on a new one. Love, Dell."
So I (read: my parents) bought a new laptop battery. I hate Dell now because after reading interweb reviews, my puny little laptop chews up batteries like there's no tomorrow.

Coincidence! I just received my new Dell laptop today. I got it to come with XP... not so fast, Vista!

Too bad about the battery. Maybe you had one of the models that was recalled two years ago.

I had something like that happen to me a few months back.

Except without the message, there was just a pop, and then my battery was useless.

I checked the model number back in the recall-time, it wasn't one of those exploding ones. I think my laptop was sort of a slightly-shrunken one and they did a crappy job designing the battery.

And why does everyone hate Vista? I love it, I never had any problems with it, Directx 10 makes things super-pretty and the GUI is shiny and easy to use.

Vista would require another gig or so of RAM in my laptop, and probably a gig and a half for my desktop.

If Vista had a 64bit version I might be more interested for my desktop, since I need to buy the RAM anyways, but it plays Oblivion fine, so I'm not really in much of a hurry.

It does have a 64 bit version. I decided to not get it because I heard that 64-bit systems in general cause files to take up twice as much space.

And why does everyone hate Vista?

A couple little things. I've read that it doesn't run programs any more efficiently than XP. In some cases, like in 3d rendering software, ironically, programs actually run slower. Vista also has a problem with occasionally mixing up files during defrags, a problem which made my gf's computer stuck in a SCNDSK>SafeMode>BSoD loop for two days.

I'm going to wait a year or two until Vista accumulates even more patches, then upgrade.

It does have a 64 bit version.

See, I heard that that thing actually doesn't map out the IO/Memory correctly, thus still preventing you from using all the RAM that you should be able to.

I heard this from my professor who teaches circuitry design, so I'm kinda inclined to believe him.

You a west coasty?
Nope all east, sir... Pity, the chicken wrap was the closest thing to a "sandwich" there. Nothing goes better with full-octane java than biscotti. Just don't chip a tooth...  Wink

You think you can find 15-layer lasagna on the west coast?!? No, I can't see that happening... Subway, OK, but not mountains of lasagna...and I don't even want to know what it would taste like. As for the shirts - well how else am I going to pass for human? Just a little humor - sometimes we negotiators like to dress down a little...

I beg your pardon? I am within WALKING distance of three amazing Italian restaurants. I just don't order the lasagna because yeah, I make it myself.

And I bought handcuffs, a blindfold, three boxes of 9mm ammunition, massage oil, and twelve pounds of steak.

One of those days, you know?
War.
