Japan tried to turn Starship Troopers into a cross between Power Rangers and Gundam.
Hate them... forever. War.

Hey, Japan couldn't do more damage that the movies already have.
To hell with you, the first movie rocked! War.
--This is from R. Daniel, but I don't know how to partially split a post. Quote from: Proto Man To hell with you, the first movie rocked! No way. It was fun and amusing, but it wasn't serious enough to really "rock." Read the book! It's Bradbury, and it's great.

It's great, and epic, and amazing. But the movie rocks. It's not Starship Troopers, not really. It's just a badass scifi alienkilly at war movie with lots of gore and some gratuitous violence and sexuality. War.

Okay, looking at is as just a generic SciFi movie, I can see where it'd be alright. But it's pretty hard not to NERD RAGE over how much they bastardized the story.

I own the book, asshat. Hey hey, what's this? But the movie rocks. It's not Starship Troopers, not really. It's just a badass scifi alienkilly at war movie with lots of gore and some gratuitous violence and sexuality. No. It was silly. Robocop rocks, the first two Alien movies and the first two Terminator movies rock. What do they all have in common? They all take themselves seriously. Starship Troopers, the movie, was a satire. Just look at all the camp. Satire can "rock," to me, but only if it's really really funny. Starship Troopers was only mildly amusing. It seems to me that you really aren't very good at telling the difference between badass and ridiculous. You just see muscles, or a boob, and think, ooh, I want that! And there's your entertainment. Boooring. Silly.

Boooring. Silly. It was an awesome satire, but they put a disturbing amount of effort into its appearance. The Arachnid designs were AMAZING and AWESOME and WIN, the action and combat scenes were fun as hell! It was a rockin' movie. As long as you don't think of it as a Starship Troopers movie... The Roughneck Chronicles were for book fans, that was awesome and win. War.

When that first came out I had no idea it was a satire because I was 12. But I still thought it kicked ass. Then I found out that the movie was nothing like the book, but I never read it so I didn't really care. and THEN I found out that it was a satire of extremely war-happy culture and that makes it better.

If you want to keep talking about Starship Troopers, I'll split the posts.
That'd be cool. I don't think Proto Man had a good reason for calling me "asshat" ... but I will say this: I'm dumb. Here I considered myself an expert, and I said Starship Troopers was written by Bradbury, not Heinlein. I'm surprised nobody grilled me for that. But here's something that I bet nobody knows! Starship Troopers was originally going to be some light reading for kids who wanted an adventure story. But before Heinlein had gotten too far, he heard the news that MacArthur's plan to nuke China was denied. This frustrated Heinlein... a lot. So Starship troopers went from light and fun to the dark and kick-ass. Just like we like it. Japan tried to turn Starship Troopers into a cross between Power Rangers and Gundam. Are you talking about THIS? I've never seen it, but the forum here says "the 1988 anime was the closest to Heinlein's novel." Looks pretty sweet to me. I do want to see what you're talking about with the terrible one, though. Could you link it?

Whomever said the 1988 anime was the closest to the original novel has either never seen the anime, never read the book, or never seen Starship Troopers: The Roughneck Chronicles.
The 3D animated series is by far the closest to the novel, and amazingly dramatic for a Saturday morning show. War.
