Big O is returning to the Adult Swim Fix starting June 13.  I've given up hope for a third season.  Cry But if there's enough interest maybe AS might at least put Seasons 1 and 2 back on the air.

Ah neat. Glad to hear it's at least getting played some where.

As long as Mike "I hate anime" Lazzo is in charge, things don't look good for anything anime honestly, I mean they constantly make fun of Code Geasse's ratings. I even heard he said he was going to quit his position if they even considered making a season 3.

...

It's not about wanting or not wanting, it's about the viability.

Big O season 2 didn't make them as much as their original series, and they're cheaper to boot.  It'd be bad business to do that again.

Thanks. After all that time spent on my class, I need to catch up on "Big O" again...

I even heard he said he was going to quit his position if they even considered making a season 3.

At this point, I've learned to be careful about the "Cartoon Network" information I receive. There's a lots of rumors going around...

Well, that's assuming their only intention is to make money. Don't get me wrong, making money is the objective. I'm just saying sometimes money can be made in other ways, like by recognition.

I will agree that Big O Season 2 alone was no money-maker, and Season 3 would probably be the same. However, Big O brought another return: viewers. Viewers to buy from Bamzu, Wendy's, Saturn, etc... Viewers who see spots for money-maker shows, and may tune into them.

It's sort of the same thinking that made ailing G4 Gaming Network buy TechTV Network. G4 was losing viewers, and TechTV had viewers. If Big O Season 3 would boost viewership and merchandising in "all things AS/Cartoon Network" you can bet it would be made. It's just not needed yet...

OK, now what makes me think CN hasn't altogether forgotten about Big O? It's not just "the fix", or a comic book seller's rumor (that's another thread)... Big O was used in another AS TV spot. It was showing silhouettes of small to large "objects" (some CN, some anime). It went from something like small, larger, BIG, and the silhouette for "Big" was "Big O" (obviously a play on "big" which is also his robot class). If they really wanted to get forget "Big O", there would be no mention of it again (just like a cancelled show is never mentioned again). The question is more "when?" than "if?" now...

True enough, although knowing Mike Lazzo and the other goof balls at AS, it wouldn't surprise me if he said it.

I doubt that Mike Lazzo hates anime as much as he loves good ratings and anime just doesn't bring in the same ratings as AS's comedies.  Big O gets about 30,000 hits/week, The Boondocks gets 300,000 hits/week.  Even junk like Assy Mc Gee or Squidbillies gets more hits [about 40,000/week] than anime.  Now if the next showing of Big O could get 40,000 + hits/week...(not impossible if we work at it) then who knows.

No.

..."never" is still a viable answer to "when?"...  Cool

Well remember that Adult Swim and Cartoon Network were built on the "homegrown" and "cutting edge" cartoons. (Assy Mc Gee or Squidbillies are more "homegrown", Clone Wars and Metalocalypse are more cutting edge. Note also that I'm only referring to the genre, and not necessarily the quality of the shows.)

Now I should clarify, my remarks were not meant to start another Big O "movement"... (with all due respect to SaveBigO and R. Daniel's 1st and 2nd efforts... *thumbs up* You guys have guts!  Smiley I keep wondering if it made at least one AS exec think "...hey maybe Big O season 3 would be..." before suddenly being bludgeoned into unconciousness...) Adult Swim has a small discussion
http://boards.adultswim.com/adultswim/board?board.id=bigo
and "Big O" on "the fix", and I guess that's good enough for now.

I'm cool with that, as long as no one "over-consumes" episodes for stats. That's like people guzzling Coke/Pepsi/Mountain Dew or eating a certain food more often than is fun, just to get stuff or win a contest  (...you companies know who you are...) I re-watch "fun" episodes, or those which I need to understand the "meaning"... Really, it's better that way... So, onto "the fix"...

I've given up on anything sensible coming from the Turner Universe, whether it's CNN or CN. However, even though I have the DVDs, I might just tune in to relive some of that nostalgia before that idiot Lazzo took control.

The problem is Big-O doesn't come cheap.

Big-O did get good ratings, if it didn't Adult Swim wouldn't have funded the 2nd season.

However, Big-O is different from other anime because Adult Swim has to pay for Big-O's entire production cost. Which other anime Adult Swim only has to pay for the rights to show them.

Adult Swim doesn't hate Big-O, even if it might seem that way at times. Big-O along with Cowboy Bebop were the only anime shows that managed to get more ratings that comedy when they were first being shown. It's just that another season of Big-O would cost Adult Swim so much money that it would have to get several times the ratings of Adult Swim's comedy shows to be make up for it.

Back from the dead I come however due to the new born son things got complicated for me however nice to know that people are still watching Big-O.  I was watching seasons 1-2 last weekend to my surprise how I understand the series more compare to what I was watching a few years back.  A great anime indeed for our times something for my son to watch when he gets older.

Then Adult Swim should sell the rights they acquired for a season 3 and 4, if they won't do anything with them. Before it's too freaking LATE!

AS may try to sell the rights for Seasons 3 and 4 but with the dismal viewer stats, they're not likely to get any buyers.  Big O is getting fewer hits than almost any other show on the Fix.  In fact AS stopped putting advertisements on Big O.  Not a good sign.  I'm not saying anyone should cheat, but if you had Big O playing while you were working on another project, then....

As Ivan Drago once said, "If he dies, he dies." I don't think it's worth being so desperate, if that's the way it is.

Since this thread is about AS as well, this is the best place to post these two lovely chestnuts. As quoted by AS...

"Nevermind, Saturday was horrible.
It got a.3 for those of you who care.
What is with you?  We give you the
best anime available - that doesn't
make standards freak out - and all
you bitches do is complain about
how nobody is watching and how
the ratings suck.  F*** you.  No more
Saturday ratings until you can bring
in the numbers.  You whiney-ass"

Followed by:

"You know what?  Forget it.  You anime
jerklings aren't gonna go to this thing
anyway.  Because you're too busy
whining about people not watching
the shows you're not watching either.
Have fun being sad and alone."

Gotta love AS amirite?
