Ma'am, I hang out on FurAffinity. There are many things I find sexy that you and likely everyone else here would not.
Of course, my demands of such a machine would be high-- precise interactivity and a full range of autonomous motion. Personality is probably asking too much, but the ability to at least make its own moves is a must. Also, while they've got some nice faces and good shapes from the Cracked images, I'd expect something a little more voluptuous, if you know what I mean.
Yes, I can feel you all squirming uncomfortably. I relish it.

We used to do things like split the atom, advance medical technologies, and land people on the moon. Now we have an online phonebook where people play games about agriculture, and the cutting edge involves a camera peripheral for game consoles and blow up dolls with endoskeletons. Each year people go into a frenzy because a slightly modified iteration of a cell phone is announced by a cadaverous looking man in a turtleneck. And I'm supposed to believe this is somehow progress

lol. Well, we have 3d printing now, which means we're startlingly close to "Leeloo Dallas, Multipass." As for medical technology...

Oh. Its an internet populated by robots.
They'll just get distracted by robot-twitter and inventing bizarre/abhorrent niche porn genres, we'll be fine.

The idea of machines becoming sentient, using cold and calculating logic, deciding their creators are inferior, devoting themselves to "working out the kinks" of the system (the kinks are us, forcing us into camps, exterminating those who resist). Thats scary
Distracting them with the time-sink that is the internet, hell that might save us from a skynet type uprising. A UAV getting mad about a laptop insulting them on cybertwitter will distract them.
Didn't you say you had an interest in robotics/A.I.? Theres your sentience, machines bitching at one another over facebook.

Ha. If facebook is still around in a few years? I'm pretty sure it was the internet that started Skynet.

Okay this is how WEIRDLY fixated on that damned website this country has become, about a month ago I'm watching the news and they had somebody on who stated "In a few years something will probably replace facebook the way it replaced myspace". Which is an entirely innocuous and obviously true thing to think, I mean thats just how the internet/practically anything works, stuff rises and falls in popularity. This was treated as if it was somehow a controversial point of view. Also why a discussion about facebook was on the goddamn news...well thats a whole other case of "what the hell are you goddamn serious, really, you're really doing this?"

So FB is going to stop skyenet and tweeter is going to make them hate each other.
Yup, that about sums up the fall of Robotic overlords.
