That's a tough one, but it was probably the first volume of Ah! My Goddess, which I purchased in conjunction with several subsequent volumes (of the same series).

Mine would be the first volume of Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star. I'd like to think my tastes in manga have improved since then.

First Manga I ever bought was the one for Big O.

First Manga I ever read was Ranma 1/2. Funny story about that. I was like, seven or eight at the time, found it at a bookstore, it reminded me of those old eighties animes I used to watch as a child. I handed it over to my dad, he asked if I had read any of it, he had a disapproving looks so I lied and said no. He said I wouldn't be mature enough to read something like that at approximately twenty one years of age, and made me put it back. I finally got a chance to actually read the series at about sixteen, and it was the first manga series I ever finished.

I bought Ranma at 10. Big sized Viz manga for 17 bucks. Legend of Overfiend was... a while later.

<geek> The first manga I actually bought were two books of Fushigi Yuugi and one of Kodomo no Omachi in raw Japanese. At Otakon. This was when FY was just starting to get translated here and I was already following the series online (and owned a few subbed VHS-- official crap though, not fansubs!), and a pretty good while before Kodachi was translated but I'd just heard about that one and it looked cute, never actually got into it.</geek>

Ahhh, dorkier years. But seriously, Fushigi Yuuigi, what was I thinking!?

I don't like most fansubs. They like throwing the words "fu*k" ans "sh*t" around a little more than I think necessary. It's moronic. Plus, apparently no one has any idea how to write a decent srt file, so they burn the subtitles into the video. Which is, again, moronic.
