These two shows fall into the same category for me.

Genshiken really warms my heart. I'm not biased for or against dubs, but in Genshiken's case, the dub ruins it. NHK has good dubbing, however.

The real point of this thread was to just state of how much love Ogiue, and how all the show's characters felt so real. I couldn't help but see myself in the main character, Sasahara, and his troubles were my troubles. If you're a nerd who introspects, watch Genshiken and post back here.

Gotta be honest, I really didn't like either of these shows and NHK was dubbed by ADV, so that's an instant sub watch, yes ADV dubs are overrated as hell.

Of the two, I'd say I like Genshiken more, but neither is really the exact same kind of show as the other.

I've read the NHK manga and novel, too, and I'd say the novel has the best ending out of all three versions.

Yeah. Genshiken is more slice-of-life and NHK is more... psycho-drama? I put them together because they're both about losers who are mired in their imaginations.

Could you spoil the novel ending for me? I'm not going to read it.

NHK must be a rare exception.

It's been too long since I read the novel to remember exactly how it ended, but I'm sure you could find spoilers if you looked for them.

As for dubs/subs, I watched ADV's dub of NHK, but I just can't bring myself to watch Genshiken in anything other than Japanese.
