Title: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 08, 2007, 11:06:49 PM GODDAMMIT WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO CHIEN-MING WANG??
He was unstoppable until about a week ago and then was completely and totally manhandled in his last 2 starts, the only starts that really really matter. We would have won on Friday in Game 2 if it wasn't for those damn bugs. I hope I don't have to burn my 13-RODRIGUEZ shirt if he leaves. ....Sorry. I just needed to vent. Give me a couple days and my seething, lifelong hatred for the Red Sox will overcome my temporary anger at the Indians and I'll start rooting for the Tribe. Anyway. American League Championship Series: Cleveland Indians vs. Boston Red Sox. National League Championship Series: Colorado Rockies vs. Arizona Diamondbacks. My picks are Cleveland and Colorado for entirely selfish, bastardly, angry-Yankee-fan reasons. Boston is evil, and Arizona beat us in 2001. Discuss? Maybe? I know nobody follows baseball these days anymore. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Sharpshooter005 on October 09, 2007, 01:59:14 AM Quote Boston is evil October 24th 2004, the Red Sox win the world series. A lunar eclipse occurs the same night. The moon is blotted out of the sky when they win the series. Coincidence? Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Dark-O on October 09, 2007, 08:59:40 PM I'm not that mad with the Yankees there a great team with great players. Torre shouldn't be fire it's not his fault they can't win. The lack of pitchers and injuries plague them since spring training. I say give them another year help out their pitching staff. My money goes to Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Soxs in the World Series.
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 09, 2007, 09:06:25 PM The Rockies have been unstoppable monsters...but how much of that was against an AL team? I think it was none. I can see Sabathia really giving the Red Sox a run for their money. At the same time, I was really surprised how badly Lackey got chewed up last week.
So it's still really anybody's game. And for the record, I think the biggest problem with the Yankees is Steinbrenner. That and the unfortunate fact that Paul O'Neill and Bernie got old. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Sharpshooter005 on October 09, 2007, 09:29:53 PM I like this thread, since I've never really had the energy or interest to follow baseball really
I've just been a lifelong "Yankees=good, Red Sox=Avatars of pure evil" sort. So now I can just read this and..it's a time-saver is what it is. edit: Also as far as I'm concerned, the sox didn't break the curse...yes, they won that series. But the final game they won was NOT against the Yankees, the whole curse thing revolves around babe ruth, until they beat the Yankees in the final game of a world series I won't consider it broken. They need to stare their mortal enemies in the face. And for the record, I think the biggest problem with the Yankees is Steinbrenner. That and the unfortunate fact that Paul O'Neill and Bernie got old. Steinbrenner is a greedy old man who wants the best. I'm glad Bernie decided not to play with them this year because they lowered his pay to a million. The fact he is greedy and wants the best players in the league to make him win. Not realizing what he is getting players who out of the prime. Clemens, Randy Johnson, Andy Pentite, Mariano Rivera, they all great players but come on there greatest won't last that long. Besides there isn't a good manager other than Torre that can lead the Yankees. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 09, 2007, 10:27:51 PM Yeah, Clemens is done. He didn't have enough good games this year to make him worth it, he should have stayed retired.
Mariano and Pettite have some more left in them. That's really my biggest fear if Torre is fired, that the Yankees could lose Mariano, Pettite and Posada. A-Rod...yes he had an amazing regular season, and if he wants to leave, then fine. I can forsee him playing for 10 different teams over his career, and never identifying with any of them because he doesn't stay long enough. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Dark-O on October 09, 2007, 10:37:51 PM Yeah, Clemens is done. He didn't have enough good games this year to make him worth it, he should have stayed retired. With all that money they pay A-Rod you can get more younger baseball players espically youngsters. Guess have to wait on what George is going to do. Word is it could be Larussa, Tony Pena, Bobby Valentine, Joe Gardi. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 09, 2007, 11:44:24 PM I'd hope for Girardi, since he was a Yankee in the Dynasty.
Plus, he's said he wants to become a Bleacher Creature. Extra points there. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 10, 2007, 11:14:28 AM But the final game they won was NOT against the Yankees, the whole curse thing revolves around babe ruth, until they beat the Yankees in the final game of a world series I won't consider it broken. They need to stare their mortal enemies in the face. That can never happen, with them being in the same league and all. 2004 is pretty much where its at. I'm pretty much the only guy I know who has no problems with either NYY or BOS, but yeah. At least A-Rod didn't suck this time as before. I think the Red Sox will get to the World Series, but like Mike said, Sabathia is crazy right now and he should win the CY Young Award. But I like the tandem of Beckett, Schilling and Matsuzaka too much from Boston. And the way Ortiz and Ramirez were hitting against the Angels as well helps in the long run.The NL, eh. The Diamondbacks have the pitching sure, but I like the Rockies' lineup overall more. Brandon Webb will give them hell but Matt Holliday, Matsui, and the rest of the Rockies are good enough hitters to step up to the plate and do their thing. So yeah, I guess for the World Series I got Boston and Colorado. Wouldn't be surprised in the least if Arizona won, but yeah. Also Mike, I know you're a hardcore Yanks fan so there's a lot of talk that Tony La Rossa would like the manager job in New York if Torre (when, I guess I should) is not coming back and if the general manager of St. Louis is to his liking. Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 10, 2007, 02:16:14 PM I heard about La Russa. Considering the Cardinals' ass-tacular performance this year, I think that would be a pretty bad idea.
...St. Louis sucked this year, right? I know they won it all last year but I don't follow the NL as much as the AL. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 10, 2007, 10:28:56 PM I heard about La Russa. Considering the Cardinals' ass-tacular performance this year, I think that would be a pretty bad idea. NO ONE does. How bout em Mets?...St. Louis sucked this year, right? I know they won it all last year but I don't follow the NL as much as the AL. But The Cardinals were raped by injuries all year. I mean, look what happened when they are healthy. Besides, they're saying that Mattingly (or something like that) is the best and most likely candidate for the job. Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on October 10, 2007, 11:56:56 PM The Yankee's aren't in it anymore, so I'm happy. *hides*
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Dark-O on October 11, 2007, 09:31:18 PM It seems I have lost interest in the ALCS/NLCS all together. Guess I should start counting the days remaining of the old Yankee Stadium which I live right next to. The new one is almost complete, by 2008 it shall be done thus the history, legends of the old shall be quiet for some time.
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 11, 2007, 10:27:21 PM I went to a game on Sep. 1, and I was amazed by how far along the new Stadium was.
Also, Colorado is knocking the crap out of Arizona 5-1 at the top of the 9th right now. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 11, 2007, 11:01:54 PM Also, Colorado is knocking the crap out of Arizona 5-1 at the top of the 9th right now. Yeah. Everyone had them losing this game because of Brandon Webb but look how well that happened. Anyway, game's over at that same score. I still have the Rockies winning this series, and even more so now. Just waiting for the ALCS now. Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 19, 2007, 12:44:26 PM ...well, Rockies made it like I had and the Red Sox survived for another day to play against the Indians.
So Mike, how bout that open position in the Yankees? You know the one I mean... Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Dark-O on October 19, 2007, 01:12:23 PM Cursed the owner of the yankees for not cuting Torre some slack trying to do a Bernie Williams on him. Good decision for Joe to leave he will be miss dearly. Chances is Donny will take the job.
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 19, 2007, 06:17:50 PM Yeah, I'm hoping for Donnie Baseball.
Mostly because A-Rod, Pettite, and Rivera really like him. Also Cleveland got their ASSES kicked last night. I guess Boston has really figured out Sabathia. I didn't realize how huge he is, either. Seriously he looks like Babe Ruth. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 22, 2007, 09:50:57 AM HAHAHAA...
My original prediction was right. Rockies vs. Red Sox in the World Series. I feel like Red Sox in six, at most. Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 22, 2007, 11:30:33 AM Who do i WANT to win? Colorado. Not only because they're not Boston, but because they've never won it all, and they were pretty far out of first place in September.
Boston is GOOD, though. Damn good. And i've only seen like 1/4 of a Rockies game, so I can't really make a prediction. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Dark-O on October 22, 2007, 07:01:59 PM Rockies in 5. <_< Let go Rockies!
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 22, 2007, 07:48:12 PM Who has the home field advantage? In this case, it actually makes a difference.
For once, playing in Denver might be really bad for the Rockies because, apparently, it just snowed. Coors Field is known for having tons and tons of home runs because the air is thin and really dry in Denver. But if it's cold as hell that'll pretty much cancel that out. As for Fenway, well, we all saw how much of an advantage that gives the Red Sox the past couple nights. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Wingnut on October 23, 2007, 12:04:05 PM Once again, it is the AL who has it this year. It gets decided by the winner of the All Star game remember?
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 23, 2007, 12:09:56 PM Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
It's probably going to be the AL for a looooong time. I think that Colorado has a pretty good advantage in the 3 games they have at home, since Boston won't have slow-ass David Ortiz as DH. But the Rox could very well get their asses handed to them. I don't think they've faced each other at all this season. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 25, 2007, 08:44:30 PM But the Rox could very well get their asses handed to them. I don't think they've faced each other at all this season. They did during inter-league. Colorado won 2 out of 3 times, including getting two home runs out of Josh Beckett. I still have the Red Sox in six games though.Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 25, 2007, 08:51:04 PM What is it about the playoffs that turns some guys (like Beckett) into unhittable monsters and other guys (like Wang) into little leaguers?
Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 25, 2007, 09:19:10 PM What is it about the playoffs that turns some guys (like Beckett) into unhittable monsters and other guys (like Wang) into little leaguers? Pressure. Some guys step up, others can't handle it.Peace. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: DOMON KASSHU! on October 30, 2007, 01:37:51 PM So I heard the Sox won the World Series, then. Not that I was really surprised by the outcome.
War. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Mike on October 30, 2007, 07:40:15 PM Yeah, they did. But good luck hearing about it, with the Yankees naming Joe Girardi as their new coach (maybe), and Alex Rodriguez opting out of his contract.
And A-Rod annoucned he was opting out of his contract DURING game four. Which...yeah, dick move. Scott Boras is definitely The Beast. Title: Re: 2007 MLB Playoffs Post by: Citizen Nine on October 31, 2007, 08:43:16 PM ...so I heard the Dodgers liek Torre. Y/N?
Peace. |
