Title: The Season 3 Project, Release
Post by: R. Daniel 01 on October 01, 2008, 03:31:54 AM
There is a hidden forum here called "The Copper Room," where 6moondance and I have slowly produced a fan-made Season 3. We've been at it for over a year. I've given it on-and-off attention with major contributions of plot and story; 6moondance has always provided analysis and assumed the role of the editor.

We did this to answer the questions left after Act 26 and to simply enjoy the Big O universe for just a little longer. For me, this meant introducing some new characters, extrapolating how some characters might change after Act 26, and figuring out how to answer the big questions in proper Big O style, all without straying from the source material. It taught me a lot, not just about telling stories but also about myself.

I've generally plugged away with mindless determination, but a few weeks ago, my motivation finally dried up. I've nurtured this pet in the dark. Now it's coming out, hopefully to inspire a finished product.

We have six finished scripts with working titles. Each script is about 24 pages long, around the proper length for a 22-minute episode.

The remaining seven episodes are as detailed summaries--not anything to show.

Starting October 5, I will upload one script every Sunday at 11PM, in PDF format.

Alright, guys, this is it. If you want more, I'll gladly finish. If your encouragement is especially strong, I'll even make some art, or even better... a little animation.

I'm open to suggestions, not just about the story but also about better ways to upload or release the scripts. For example, I could use "Script Buddy" instead of "filesanywhere.com," if it makes any difference.

I'm glad that you guys are still around and that a semblance of our sites still exist. Maybe this project will have some effect. We'll see.

Hahaha, too true. Alright, make that every Sunday at 11PM.

Now I have to wait until Sunday.

If I could abuse my mod powers to fix that I would.

As epic as that could be, do you know what the work that could possibly take could be?

Answer:  A lot.  R. Daniel and I have been working on these scripts for over a year.

We are looking forward to your feedback.  We welcome any and all constructive criticism but especially welcome specific suggestions on how to improve the scripts.  Don't worry about hurting our feelings,  R. Daniel and I are tough, we can take it.

Well, to put everything in perspective though, it really only took a year because we had year-round distractions.

Downloaded, need to read

I pored over the script again and caught a number of tiny mistakes. It made the stage direction unintentionally comical . If you would, give it another download to... improve your reading experience.

Hey!  I've been wondering what some of the guys doing Big O continuations have been up to.  This sounds exciting.  I had been working on my own follow up to Season II but got sidetracked by life issues.  I'll have to read it this week, in between work on another couple of fics I'm working on.

I can relate. :-\

I've read your Big O stories along with your work on the Paradigm City Forum's RPG and have a great deal of respect for your writing ability.  R. Daniel and I would love to hear what you have to say about our Season 3.   I know that I am, to put it politely, an 'emerging' writer so feel free to be as honest as you wish.

I took my storyline from that RPG and turned it into a story of its own, broken down into cliffhanging episodes. Then, I started a form of script format of the same story.

Aaaand act 28 downloaded...NOW! I just have to sit down and read them.

Thanks. You guys really snatched it up first chance. That's a good sign.  :)

I apologize for releasing it almost three days late. It was "fall break weekend" at my university and I went overboard with having a good time. Good memories, but hurt grades, and late release. Was it worth it? Dunno.

It's the usual racket. I decided the script needed a bit of an overhaul after all this time, and then school interfered. Bear with me, please. I'll post 29 tomorrow evening.

Perfectly understandable. I'm definably ready to give it a go over, but if ya need to make some last minute changes then that's understandable, and ditto on the school stuff as well.

I hope that comes off as mildly amusing as it was when I typed it and thought it....well...reverse those...

And I'll be ready to download it.

In the meantime, I'll have dinner and work on a mecha idea that's always been stirring in my head. But I've been in a rut the past few years on works of my own, so I might just toss it...or see if anyone likes my idea and is willing to make tweaks for me/help me...gah...that would mean that I would have to ask for help...I don't frequently do that...of course, I do want to start writing again, It's just that all of my fuel is gone...save for epic RPs with page-stretching joint posts.

If your fuel is gone, do you really want to keep writing?

If you like writing RP's, maybe you could help me out with this project. It's almost an RP, more or less.

maybe fuel was the wrong word. Perhaps it would be better put to say that I'm having a dry spell...writer's block, if you will. I love writing, I just...as the saying goes, "I've got nothing."

I could give it a shot, if you wanted me to. It would be an honor. Of course, I have to focus into the character for the best result I can hope to fashion to meet credentials. I should be getting a fouton to sleep on tomorrow, which, in theory, should help me sleep better, making me more awake and more attentive..again in theory. Let me know what comes up.

Well, you wouldn't be focusing into a single character. You'd need to have a feel for all the characters. Also, you'd need to take a conflict or plot that I provide, and work together with me to work out the details, so that it's interesting and fits into a neat little 24-page packet.

I sleep on the floor...on some blankets...and I still don't have my fouton...because people that we need to get hold of are not available for some reason.

And it is a saying. Said frequently by people, especially in a verbal comeback battle.

Did I say one character? Didn't mean to. I just meant I have to get the mindset, and while some might suggest that could take little effort, I don't want to mess up. Still up for it, though.

And I know, I didn't follow proper quoting procedure. Sorry.

Sweet.

Yeah. Season II had its moments. I worshiped it during high school, when Big O was the first and only anime I’d ever seen. I haven’t lost my loyalty, but I’ve come to realize what Big O lacks, and all the ways that Season II faltered.

I have to say R. Dan, it's nice to see a fan made season 3 deal actually take shape and actually get made. I remember the days of PCF's, we had plenty of season 3 deals, but none ever got off the ground, so this is a welcome change. So I gotta give you and 6moondance props, glad it didn't die out like the other Season 3 projects.

I know, right? That was main hurdle to getting anybody on board at first. People just assume it's not going to go anywhere, so even if they do sign on, they soon disappear. Thankfully, 6md goes into things for the long haul.

It'll be nice to have some extra assistance once all scripts are posted, when I likely choose to finish off this thing. It's tough, though, because if you ask someone to put a plot together for you and it ends up being weak, it can end up shattering fragile egos or causing hard feelings. Eh, I guess that's not anything to worry about. People should know their strengths and weaknesses.

With a number of assignments out of the way, the finals period has begun. This means that I'll once again have time this weekend to release a script. Look forward to it!

I'll also be altering Act 28. Once I post the newer version, tell me what you think of the changes.

Hell no! I just got back.

I'm sorry for disappearing without a word of explanation. Graham, you're correct; it just came down to schoolwork. I'd been working on this animation project for a long time and I didn't want to make promises or get distracted until I finished. Well, I just finished. I'm going to post it here instead of in its own thread.

Floursack exercise. The color-test screen at the beginning is part of it. (https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8d6b66895962a57da89d)

Considering what I'm working on right now, I can hardly believe how long this took to make. (over a month!) Proof that doing it all by hand takes several times longer than doing it with software. Unnecessary hassles abound.

Right now I'm working on a final-final project for the same class, which provided an extension. This is what my final looks like right now, just the first few seconds all sketchy and sped-up.

The two main antagonists. (https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8d6b66895961b1b0b4a9)

I initially wanted all my work with the Season III released by Christmas, so everyone could lend ideas or motivation, and I would've completely finished it during the break in-between semesters. Now it looks as though I won't be free until January 23rd at the earliest.

On the bright side, though, as you can see from this, a fanimated episode of the Big O is fully possible.

R.Dan, did ya run into some unforeseen events? Hope you guys continue.

Did I ever. Self-generated drama at the age of 21. Deciding to transfer to an art school. I've been working on my portfolio. This 10-second clip (https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8f6a678d5a67b3b36dab) consumed all of my free time. I learned truckloads about building scenes in Flash, though.

That has kept me away from the forums at large, but the immediate reason I paused after episode 4 was dissatisfaction with my writing.

You see, after episode 4, the central conflict kicks in. I don’t believe that I currently have the conflict clean enough or interesting enough. There’s a tendency in amateur writing to have events unfold in ways that are both convoluted and unimaginative. Whenever I imagine the whole of my Season 3 as I currently have it, I feel it isn't much better. Creating stand-alone episodes is one thing, but a long mystery arc is another. Since this project went on hiatus, I’ve created some improvements. When I get enough chunks of free time, I will devote it towards revamping the remaining episodes.

I will finish Season 3. It's a part of me, sadly.

I hope so. Thanks for the support. I have doubts about it, almost a longing that I'd stayed dysfunctionally nerdy and had chosen engineering back in Freshman year.

You win some, you lose some.

... I like that notion. Now for my signature.

This shouldn't be. What's the problem? As long as you know what purpose the conversation serves for the plot or conflict, it should work.

I'm writing two non-Big O fanfics, and working on two music projects at the same time, so I need to find a gaping hole of time to re-read those scripts - I hate that format, by the way, worst format I've ever seen.  It figures some knothead from the 19th century would think that was cool, and Hollywood would never change from it.  Mooks.  But anyway, I hope to re-experience it soon.
