Title: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 08, 2008, 12:40:16 AM I thought I'd give it a shot and attempt to make a story based on the type of manga I would make. So far, I only have one page done, meaning not much, but I wanted to actually try it. When I get more of it done, meaning when I get my monitor back for my other computer, I want to put some of it up here...to be
I'm trying to get out of my rut. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: R. Daniel 01 on November 08, 2008, 12:06:25 PM Alright, this should be interesting.
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on November 08, 2008, 02:39:59 PM Sounds pretty interesting. I actually have my own mecha idea floating around as well, although I have only worked on one part of it, I'm friggin' lazy with it I swear.

Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Bllue on November 10, 2008, 04:34:20 PM It's so hard to make manga. Do you have the tools or are you just using a regualr pen and paper. I freaking hate screen tone. how am i supposed to know what 51 means? yeah, don't try to make a manga with the supplies your art class has... they don't have the right ones!

Post by: Professor Vogler on November 11, 2008, 12:54:35 AM `-` Actually MS Feather made a rather good manga interpretation of my Lupin/Big O crossover fanfic (All 8 pages that she did ;_; Come back Feather!!). I don't think she used anything other than a steady hand, pencil/ink, and some good clean up work in photoshop... which is pretty much what they do nowadays.
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 11, 2008, 01:45:22 AM Actually, I'm not talented enough to make it into a full manga, so I am just typing it as a story. Also, in this, I will be doing blueprint drawings of the mechas...or I want to anyway. This, of course, means that I'll be taking forever on this project. I have decided to already integrate my Gundam Rebirth into it. And no, they aren't called Gundams. I needed a filler name to replace terms like "Gundam", "Mobile Suit", and "Zoid". I couldn't come up with anything better, so I just thought up some quick, functional, and semi-generic names that suprizingly enough didn't sound too bad: Bi-mecha and Quadra-mecha. So far I only have an incomplete drawing of Rebirth, which greatly needs some revisions on the lower leg(s). (I was only able to get one drawn, and got a little agitated with it.)

As for me, I simply called my mecha, Tactical Armored Soldiers, a cheesy but effective name. I have a similar idea similar to your Bipedal or Quad. I'm also keeping mine mecha is the realm of reality, if you consider 17 meter tall realistic, meaning, no beam weapons, but yeah I really need to get started on my mecha project as well lol. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 11, 2008, 05:55:31 PM Seems a touch long for a unit title, in my opinion. And I'll be honest, this is practially a crossover between Gundam and Zoids, so yeah, beam weapons, including the wings on Rebirth. I never wrote down the specs of the unit, just memorized them. The wings on it are supposed to be similar to the Beam Sword technology, and are attached to a removable backpack for more functionality.
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on November 11, 2008, 06:23:13 PM A Zoids/Gundam Crossover sounds pretty interesting. Yeah, I just call mine T.A.S for short, it makes things simpler, I've also been doing research on various weapons from various countries as ideas for the weapons of the mecha Example: T.A.S-06G Dragunov is named after a Russian sniper rifle. It's your typical Gundam style Zaku grunt, although it's similar to the Tieren from Gundam 00 in it's design and weight. But I do look forward to checking out some of your stuff, and I'm thinking about posting some of my idea here as well, in my own thread of course.
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 11, 2008, 06:36:05 PM Once the monitor for that computer is returned, I'll be back to work on it. Until then I have to work on the mechas. Look forward to your work as well.
Dragunov SVD. Uses a 7.62x59 round. Russian only...unless you do the conversions and realize that it's a .308 round. I'm working on converting an SKS into a mini SVD. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: R. Daniel 01 on November 20, 2008, 06:41:14 PM So can we get some story details or is that on hold?
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 22, 2008, 01:03:19 PM I still don't have my monitor back, but I'm jumping off with essentially a morning assault. The main character, Shade Gaiven, hates being up in the morning, `tis why I chose it. Start off with waking him up early with an attack from, if I remember, the West and the South. I'm choosing to get right into the action instead of buildup, and to do it at a time to make the character cranky to boot. And, to make things interesting, I've also introduced a female character, Stormy Gail, that he is quite protective of.
There are different groups/factions, and they'll be more developed as things go. I'm starting it off with just a few attacking units, then I'm thinking about perhaps introducing a main adversary as a reinforcement, but it seems a bit cliche and I'm not sure I want to do that. I've got a few ideas for how to get things going on too. I was thinking of there being perhaps some form of a league for the mecha fights like in Zoids, and yet at the same time a small-scale faction war going on. I'm still doing a lot of development on it. I'm not sure how well the idea will hold for it, so I was thinking also that for the leage fights, Shade would enter from time to time as a means of recruiting for his faction. Without my monitor to the other computer, I can't do a lot with it right now. For the most part it's on hold, but I thought I'd share some of what's been brewing in the noggin, and what's on the word document. I didn't get very far before my girlfriend's mom stole my monitor. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: R. Daniel 01 on November 22, 2008, 04:23:35 PM Why is the main character fighting, though? That's very important, very basic. Is he fighting over a piece of land, or like a monument or something, like the Crusades? Or resources? Or are there political problems?
lol I like her name, Stormy Gail. That's an archetypal character, though some could say a stereotype. I can imagine some girls rolling their eyes and thinking, "oh it's always the women who are the emotional ones." Still. She's probably going to be all gung-ho and badass. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Brooklyn Luckfield on November 22, 2008, 07:56:34 PM Looking pretty good Snake.
Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: Char Aznable on November 23, 2008, 05:12:55 PM Some of the reasons to fight are grudges, some political. Eventually I may put in some sort of "trophy" (landmark/monument/etc.) here and there to mix it up. What I'm thinking about is an integration of multiple purposes, because if there was only one purpose, it would get boring.
Stormy Gail. The name is based on someone I know. Her middle name is Gail, and her mom thought about naming her Stormy, but in the end didn't. I'm not sure how stereotypically emotional she will end up being. It really depends on how I let events play out. So far, she doesn't seem too much the stereotype. Shade, however, tries to keep her off the front lines and inside a base location doing something out of the way. Title: Re: My mecha project, inspired by the "Manga you would make" thread. Post by: R. Daniel 01 on November 24, 2008, 01:58:23 AM if there was only one purpose, it would get boring. That's not necessarily true. Consider Death Note. One overarching purpose givess a plot a strong core that binds everything together, I've noticed. GitS did that, sprinkling main plot episodes in between the stand-alones. The way you're describing your story so far, it reminds me of Full Metal Panic. That had the rivalry between Sousuke and Gauron to link missions together. I don't remember the plots or individual missions very well, so it maybe that's a weak model. And, I know your story won't be exactly like FMP, I see differences already, but already I perceive that it'd have a similar feel. Quote Her mom thought about naming her Stormy, but in the end didn't. Thank goodness. :D |
