Title: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: Wazpy on January 15, 2009, 09:31:39 PM Okay guys. I built my own "little" (it took tons of work to make this) fighting game, but I can't test for bugs all by myself, so play around a bit, and if anything seems really horribly glitchy, let me know. I don't mean to be nitpicky, because there's only so much I can do working alone (I do all the programming and art by myself... and I'm neither a programmer nor an artist). But if the game freezes or something big I need to know. It's built for 2 players and a normal (non-laptop) keyboard, by the way, so it might be tricky.
Also, keep in mind that this has lots of touching up to do and lots more to be added in still (like sound, the rest of my backgrounds... the ability to character select...). I'm really only in the middle stages of building this. Anyway, here it is: http://www.snakevsmongoose.info Depending on the number you press in the beginning, it will be a different character for player 2. I'll update this topic as I make more updates. My friends in real life are too lazy to test this for me, so I could really use some help. Thanks. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: R. Daniel 01 on January 16, 2009, 12:10:02 PM Wow. Fun stuff. Making characters and animations for this could be fun. Chicro reminds me of the recurring inmate from SuperJail.
Gltiches: When I pressed 2 for character selection, there was no player 2 and the background kept flickering between a seascape and some other location. I love Claquette's PgDwn attack. Very cool. Oh, that happened because it probably didn't finish loading yet. I need to whip up a loading screen, I think. Also, the animating is actually the really tedious and time consuming part. The programming is kinda fun. If you wanted to draw up your own character, I would be be happy to write up a little guide. I'm self taught in this stuff, so I can explain it pretty simply. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: R. Daniel 01 on January 21, 2009, 08:55:57 AM Wow. Maybe my teacher was crappy but I just don't have the knack for programming. So painful.
Also, making a character would be fun but you know, I've got the usual other priorities thing going on. Which involves the kinda animating that you find painful. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: Wazpy on January 21, 2009, 09:16:03 AM Well the reason the animating is such a pain compared with programming is that with programming I can have something awesome set in a day, provided I have the tools ready (The sprites). If I want a character to walk, he'll walk when I'm done.
The animating is long, long preparation for something I might not end up using for another month anyway. Also, I work on this when I get back from my job, so it's really hard to push myself to work on something that I won't even use for a long time. I'm already tired. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: Wazpy on January 29, 2009, 11:39:53 AM So at some point I decided that instead of being a Street Fighter clone, it should be the first ever Volleyball Fighting game. Picture regular volleyball, but you're allowed to jump the net and kick the crap out of your opponent. Imagine lobbing a ball, and when the other guy is about to return it, he gets kicked in the nuts. You'll be able to win by points or KO.
I'm still working out the mechanics so I need suggestions, but check it out. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: R. Daniel 01 on January 30, 2009, 04:07:34 PM As usual you're an oddball GENIUS. Our Tim Burton of videogames.
Having special ball-handling madskillz would be cool, but having the potential for the ball remain airborn for a long time is a must. We need time for the brawling in-between the volleys. Such a fun idea. I wish I had the free time to help you. Title: Re: I built a Fighting game and it needs testing Post by: Wazpy on March 08, 2009, 11:24:28 PM So I'm still working on the game. Keep checking it out when you can. It gets a bit more solid and game-like every time I update it.
