Anyone else waiting for Crysis? If you don't know what Crysis is, it's new PC game developed by Crytek, the people who made Far Cry. It's built on Crytek's new game engine, CryEngine 2. The graphics in Crysis are almost seem too good to be true. I thought they were cutscenes or faked when I first saw them, but sure enough they were real. Here's a gameplay video of Crysis taken during the Consumer Electronics Show. The video was taken of someone actually playing the game on a PC. The camera angle is a bit off to the right because it's looking over shoulder of the person playing it, but it still shows off how awsome the graphics are: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/16240.htmlHere's a more recent gameplay trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/22412.htmlWith a decent dual core processor, 2GB of Ram, and an 8800GTS, the game would supposedly be able to run with maximum graphics with a smooth framerate at 1280x1024 resolution. Supposedly with the graphics turned down the game can even run on an older Geforce 6600 with smooth framerates and still look better than anything else you could play on that card, but I'm not sure if anyone has confirmed this yet. The game can run on DirectX 9 or DirectX 10. (I think the trailers are in DirectX 9, but I'm not sure) The free demo of Crysis should be released on October 26 a few weeks from now. The game itself will be released on November 16 this year. Unfortunately for those console people out there, Crysis is PC only. There aren't any plans to port it over to any consoles as of yet.

Crysis is going to be awesome. I wasn't planning on getting it, but then I found out I could play Bioshock on its highest settings, so yay.
I never played FarCry, but I always heard good things, so Crysis should be a winnar.

Rest assured, FarCry was full of good things. Playing FarCry gave you the sandbox wonder of GTA, but with the hunted excitement and suspense of Doom 3.

Final Fantasy VII was bad enough, and then they made SPINOFF TITLES. Square Enix will burn in the deepest, foulest, dankest pit of hell for all eternity. War.

Bad comparison. DBGT was at least a continuation of something that was good to begin with. War.

No, it has nothing to do with Final Fantasy. Crysis is the game that looks like this: And this: And this:

Bah, have you never played video games? Only red barrels explode. And a lot of guns have attached grenade launchers nowadays. They're fun.

Second pic: i wish my eyes could analyse a gun like that....wait a minute, dues that say that the bottom barrel is a grenade launcher!!?!?! I can do you one better: That gun is an X-M8 in Carbine configuration. Though... by the time this game is supposed to take place, the gun will have lost the "X-" designation. It's gonna be nice to have a game where the guns are be modular like that. I think CoD 4 is going to have the same system. Now THAT's an exciting game. LOL at third screenshot. Good move on the games marketing to release that screenshot. It's eye-catching AND reveals an interesting game mechanic.

The X-M8 is an amazing modular assault weapon. Cool to see that weapon thrown in, it's a great design. Ah, hell, I'm going to have to upgrade again, for this game, aren't I? War.

I got the demo, which is awesome, but it runs somewhat like ass on anything other than the lowest settings. I really hope it's just the demo, I don't want to have to go and drop a grand on a quadcore CPU after buying new video cards and RAM.

Minimum Requirements: CPU: Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz (3.2 GHz for Vista), Intel Core 2.0 GHz (2.2 GHz for Vista), AMD Athlon 2800+ (3200+ for Vista) or better RAM: 1GB (1.5GB on Windows Vista) Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT, ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista) or better VRAM: 256MB of Graphics Memory Storage: 12GB Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible ODD: DVD-ROM OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10
Recommended requirements: CPU: Core 2 Duo/Athlon X2 or better RAM: 1.5GB Video Card: NVIDIA 7800 Series, ATI Radeon 1800 Series or better VRAM: 512MB of Graphics Memory Storage: 12GB Sound Card: DirectX 9.0c Compatible ODD: DVD-ROM OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Vista DirectX: DX9.0c or DX10
However, keep in mind that unlike a lot of other games, Crysis has very strict a minimum Video Memory requirement. If your Video Card doesn't have at least 256VRAM on it the game can't run at all.
From what has been found from the demo, you'll probably need at least an 8800GTS to run the game on all "High" settings at 1280x1024 resolution. If you want to run the game at higher resolutions and on "Very High" graphics you'll probably need an 8800GTX.
Luckily, Nvidia has released the 8800GT this week, which should be a good option if you want to play Crysis well without stretching your budget too far.
