Vandal Hearts 2.

Been nearly 10 years since VH2 was released and with a 3rd one coming August, I'm hoping for the best. At least they didn't turn it into a generic FPS/ARPG.

Dark Forces I.

This game had ambition. I'm always amazed by the environments they managed to squeeze out of its Doom-Plus engine, which is why I keep coming back every couple years, hepped up on nostalgia.

Oh your god I miss Dark Forces.

2 wasn't bad, but I was never a fan of Outcast, and never played Academy.

I'm currently replaying the Starcraft campaigns, and got around to getting the PC version of L4D, which doesn't really run on my laptop, so I'll most likely be playing it in a week or so.

OK so I've been having a problem with Games for Windows Live.

I'm trying to play Fallout. It doesn't automatically login to Live for some reason. When I click on "Live" it just says "signing in" and nothing happens. At all. I've left it there for a half an hour and NOTHING happens. And it worked perfectly about a week ago. I tried going to support.live.com, all I got was a phone number to call. That phone number said they only support Xbox live, for Windows help I need to go to support.live.com.

I used to think you were ok, Microsoft. Assholes.

Oh your god I miss Dark Forces.

Hell yeah.

One of my favorite parts is the robotics facility, on hard. After you set the charges and kill the Phase 2 trooper, then you have to go through an Alien-esque series of ventilation tunnels, hunted by Phase 1 troopers, like some kind of first-person pac-man. Except replace the cutesy ghosts with towering death-droids equipped with a vibro-sword and a reflective shield. Laying mines behind you, trying to avoid the dead-ends. Intense shit!

Still, though, I have to complain about DF in some areas. The enemies tend to have no variety, and some of the weapons are silly. Like the autogun--where does that fit in Star Wars? It's belt-fed... but doesn't fire bullets... eh? And the fusion cutter... not only does it not operate like a cutting tool... it doesn't really serve any particular function, except to sound cool and look funny. Any other gun can do what the cutter does, except with greater efficiently. Even the alt-fire for the fusion cutter is weak, when it SHOULD be a BFG-like room-sweeper.

It's such a disappointment that none of the enemies lay mines, none use the auto-gun, none use the fusion cutter (plenty of opportunities for hypothetical technicians, miners and factory workers to wield those), and none use the grenade launcher. It's a shame that enemies using thermal detonators and the concussion appear so rarely. It gets tiresome killing the same identical stormtroopers, commandos and officers, whose only difference is their sprite and their amount of health.

I was surprised to find, earlier today in fact, that the lead designer really did include weapons based on how cool they sounded, rather than what purpose they served in the game. Unlike Doom, for example, where every gun felt unique and suited towards different situations. At least, to me.

Still, as level designers and programmers, they were friggin' genius.

Brood War, or original? Even now, I can't get past Zerg mission 8 in Brood War. I once watched a friend of mine beat it for me--he was a macro-management monster.

Have you tried playing the Enslaver campaign? I would like to know if you can beat Enslaver03b, and if so--how!

X-COM: Apocalypse

Not as good as X-COM: UFO Defense, but a lot better than X-COM: Terror from the Deep.

Killing Floor

It feels like a mod and has pacing issues all over the place, but it's still fun.

Dynasty Warriors Gundam 2 on PS2. They didn't release the first one on it, but for some reason, this one, which just came out, is. I bought it the second I saw it, and promptly did the Char storyline. Now I'm playing as Heero, with the occasional Kamille. I'm thinking about Kira next, or Zechs.

Original, though I've lapsed from it because of L4D, TF2 and RL.  Never heard of Enslaver.
