Dragon Age Origins (PS3)

So damn good it isn't even funny. Has that old school PC RPG feel that I love so much.
Does it have the old school "face and a text box" feel? I miss those days...

Indeed Char. If you love old school PC RPG's, you'll probably like Dragon Age.

Dragon Age is SO AWESOME.

For my party I usually use:
me (human sword-and-shield warrior)
either Morrigan or Lileana for ranged support
and Shale. For tankage and overall hilarity. He's the HK-47 of this game.

I think my favorite thing about the game is the fact that everyone is a smart ass. It's great.
Especially Shale.

They have voice acting, so it isn't very text-boxy.

I'm currently rolling with myself, Allistar, Wynne and Leil.  I just got started in Dwarf land, and really want to play through the Dwarven Noble starting line now.

I'm also hoping to give enough gifts to Allistar to make him forgive me for what I did in Redcliff,  Morrigan to get her bonuses should I ever actually need to use her, and Sten so I can learn about giant people land.

I wish the dog was more useful, because I really like him getting me free stuff.

Sten hasn't really said much of anything. About anything.
So far I've finished Dwarf town, Mage tower, and Redcliffe, including the ashes. And a bunch of side quests. I finally got enough coin to buy the rest of the blood dragon armor set, so I gave Al the Warden Leader one from the keep.

I also found an armor called Effort (honestly I forget where...I think somewhere during the Dwarf town quests) and I remember finding the boots for it, but now I can't remember where that was. Oh well.

O HAY I got the social thing to work now.

Still chugging along in Dragon Age. Just about finished with the Mages Tower. It's about time the WRPG genre was taken in the right direction of strong story, good writing, moral choices, and all that good stuff.

I'm really liking Shale's sense of humor.

She's sort of like a light version of HK-47 from KOTOR. I kinda wish she had more dialogue though.

By the way, happy birthday Graham.

For a while I used Shale as my main tank. All the talk of head-crushing made me warm and fuzzy inside.

I genuinely laughed out loud at the part with the chicken.

Rogue Warrior (360)

Wow. This is just a awful game. Fun Fact: I know alot of Bethsoft fans like to believe that they had nothing to do with this game, but in reality Bethsoft had so much say in the game, they canned the original build and brought in rebellion to make the current, and super lulzy build.

Cross-post

Also long as hell.

Quote from: Sharpshooter005
So having gotten slightly more of a feel for TF2, it's better than I'd anticipated.

When I heard about unlockable items and the 'achievement' system I was all "Thats bullshit".

Well now I'm thinking..It is and it isn't.

The newly released one for the demomen seems stupidly powerful. That was the impetus for the free-weekend I gather, so its impossible not to see it. Maybe thats just because its new, hence everybody wants it, hence it's everywhere.

The ones for the sniper (the only ones I've gotten since I just went back to my old tfc habits, which was sniper or medic or engineer..and for some reason the engineer doesn't have any of these things? Maybe valves holding that for later) seem a lot better. If you can figure out how to use them, they can be a game-changer, however if you end up staring down an enemy sniper who has one theres no guarantee he's un-fuck-with-able merely because he has them. The medics just seem to give them sliiiightly more of an edge in a firefight, except I think theirs has a downside in terms of health levels or something.

Overall that level of balance seems fairly universal. Even the demoman upgrades, apparently, have significant drawbacks (not with me though, I see somebody wielding that shit I just run since I unerringly end up hamburger to them)

As far as how they're portioned out. That one I really don't get. The sniper unlocks required me to go through the whole achievement system, whereas I got one of the demoman ones for...hell I don't even think I DID anything. The chatter I'm hearing though suggests their systems sort of out of whack currently though, so I'm not gonna look too much into that.

I can't really blame them for this, the whole 'achievement points' thing is either the wave of the future, or just so prevalent at the moment that it's not surprising they'd follow that route. On the plus side, a number of them seem fairly incidental, as in you'll get one without even realizing it.

Truth be told, the things so cheap right now (its what, ten dollars until monday...and even when it resets to its old price it's not as bad as what most games seem to cost now) that I'm giving it some pretty serious thought...particularly since I've just now become aware of a program which can crank the graphics down to even lower than what you could get through the options menu and give a pretty hefty performance boost. The source engine, apparently, and I'm not close to understanding game engines is one of the more scalable ones. Besides the design aesthetic is sort of a bizarro cartoon-land type thing so it doesn't seem out of place when its set to lower detail levels.

That last bit about the design aesthetic. I remember the early screens of it being a typical (this was years ago) military shooter type one. I'm glad they went this route, it's..I can comfortably say its different to most anything I can think I've ever played. It doesn't take itself remotely seriousky.

Fundamentally I'm never gonna like this idea of "Grind enough dudes in multiplayer, get shit" in a FPS. But if it HAD to happen...then I suppose this is the best way.

Now, however, apparently theres a system where you can craft hats out of items you find though. That just sounds goddamn inane and and I don't think I even want to give it any heed much less ever use it. Thankfully...from what I can tell those have absolutely no impact on anything aside from being cosmetic (shit I actually found it easier to pick out targets who had their little super hardcore gamer top-hats on.)

I mean I like the idea of somebody with a high powered rifle wearing a faded top hat, I mean obviously, but...for gods sakes its a FPS keep this 'crafting' shit in world of warcraft or whatever. You wanna craft something in team fortress? Choose the engineer class, build a damn sentry gun, there that should get the "build things in a game" desire out of your system.

EDIT:

Quote:
So to answer the question, zombie panic.

Somebodys gonna someday have to explain to me how and why left 4 dead is somehow better than this, which is entirely free and seems more scalable graphically. They apparently even overhauled it to a fair degree because I had to update and it seems...I dunno, more "polished" I guess?

Rogue Warrior (360)

IGN gave this a 1.5. Lovely.

Have you seen the commercials for it? Sometimes it doesn't make sense to even bother.

Yeah, the TV spot is pretty hilarious. The game is just flat out bad. The dialog is childish with more F bombs than I could count. It's short, like 2 hours short. The multiplayer is crap, just deathmatch and team deathmatch. I'm loving the fact that the Bethesda fan boys are in total defense mode (T.D.M) trying to convince people that they had nothing to do with it. They did however, so much so they canned the original 3rd person shooter with 4 player co-op and 32 player online with random maps, cause it didn't meet their standards. Mean it didn't have first person view point, not enough "cool shit", and Mikey Rourke.

Actually not a bad game, just very very...empty.

Empty like lacking the classic NES awesomeness kind of empty?

Aww...I got nostalgic. And I just remembered that I don't really like area four...and another one...but I forgot it...maybe it was like 17 or something...it was a two digit area...

It's not a bad game really. It does lack the awesomeness that the NES one had. It's empty in the fact that you rarely run into enemies. Later on there are more but for the most part, it's a pretty empty.

Bionic Commando (PS3)

About half way to the Plat. trophy now.

Shadow Complex is pretty goddamned awesome. It's basically Metroid Zero Mission, except you're a dude. And your arm isn't a weapon of mass destruction.
