Well. I was hoping someone else might notice and make this thread, but no one did.
Gary Gygax passed on March 4 at age 69. He was credited as helping create Dungeons and Dragons, founding Tacitcal Rules Studies (TSR), and in general helping to create the roleplaying game as we know it today. The man helped create several additional role-playing board games, and wrote several fantasy novels. Even up until his death he was an active participant in the role-playing community, being an active member of role-playing boards, running online Q&As, and traveling to conventions.
He made a guest appearance in the movie Dungeons and Dragons. He has appeared on shows like Futurama and Code Monkeys.
Without his influence, entertainment, fantasy, video games, etc. wouldn't be anything like it is today. The man helped pioneer a new aspect of gaming and entertainment, and influenced the modern ideas of entertainment and role-playing in more ways than one can count.
So here's to you, Gary Gygax, the very first stats I ever rolled for a character:
STR 11 DEX 15 CON 12 INT 09 WIS 14 CHA 07 War.
