I've been hearing rumors of this for a bit now, but Adult swim seems to be putting the nail in the coffin. http://www.mania.com/adult-swim-updates-august-schedule_article_123661.htmlAccording to this article (and a mention on tvtropes), it looks like AS is chopping the Saturday-only insomniac block of Anime into a 4-hour block. tvtropes says in its Network Decay page that the change will be Midnight-2AM... however the article says 10pm-2AM w/ repeat from 2AM-6AM. So no longer will there be a variety (if you could call it that) of anime, there will likely be an hour of Bleach, and then a couple other shows. Oh and FMA: Brotherhood, a flagship series with legions of fans and MONEY, will allegedly stop airing at Episode 26 on AS. Means that the 63 episode series will stop in the middle of fucking nowhere.... actually, it's 2 episodes before the Big Bad is revealed. Whoops! Whatever semblance of Anime that was on cable is now going extinct. Way to go.

Honestly, I never liked the idea of an anime block. It always ended up crappy. Instead, animes should be treated like any other show and not placed into a special category. Like look at Big O. It wasn't treated special and regulated to some silly anime block. It was just treated as the awesome show it was and allowed to mesh with Adult Swim's other stuff. Same deal with Cowboy Bebop.
Bottom line is they should show whatever is good. They shouldn't be required to play something just for being Japanese.

So, they are finally going to put the old Coup De Grace on Anime on AS? It's been a long time coming and I'm surprised they didn't start cutting back sooner honestly, as Anime has been on the verge of death on AS for years now. Whoops! Awesome move AS, brilliant! If this does indeed come to pass, then AS is even stupider than I though.

Not quite Graham. (also now watching Gundam00, awesome show)
I've talked to a few people in the industry and heard a few interviews, and it's more like AS has been trying to get rid of Anime. The executives (aka Mike Lazzo) are known for hating anime, and it isn't surprising that moves like this are being taken. Anime is not a small audience, it is a money making genre, and it's AS itself that's behind Anime being on the verge of death.
It's a damn shame.
Wazpy I'm not sure your point of view on the matter. The point I was making is I think this is just about the end of Anime on AS, not just an Anime block.

I've ranted this on here once and I'll rant it again.
"Lazzo, pull your head out of your ass and show what makes money. Stop bitching about anime and notice it's popular as hell!"

The executives (aka Mike Lazzo) are known for hating anime, and it isn't surprising that moves like this are being taken. It's way past time for Anime to find a new home for broadcast. Companies need to start looking at Sci-Fi, at least they have some ounce of respect for the shows they show.

My point is that Big O and Cowboy Bebop (and probably some things I'm forgetting) existed without the block. They're not necessarily cutting out anime completely. Those guys will show what they want. They just seem to be cutting out the block where they're obligated to show Japanese things, but if they find an anime they like and think will be popular, they'll make room for it. These are the same guys who liked Big O so much that they freaking sponsored it.

Actually, I'm glad about AS dropping all anime. They're so in-your-face unprofessional, it's embarrassing; I'd much rather watch a DVD that I picked out and bought with my own money than suffer through their infantile tripe for a few episodes of something I've never heard of and may not even like.
I haven't forgotten Stripes. I probably never will, either.

I remember that. I was 13 years old and it pissed me the fuck off. Then they did a joke about it the next week and showed the first 30 seconds of stripes again. Just to piss us off.
Seriously, back when I was still a very young teenager I had to do a weeks worth of chores just to get to watch Big O on sunday night. So I thought I'd be treated to a new episode and then that happens. I wanted to throttle Lazo. But then so did everyone else.

I actually found that somewhat amusing. The second time, not the actual mistake. Then again, I was old enough to stay up without parental consent. Is there any confirmation that FMA:B will no longer be shown? I thought this was just a hiatus, like with the first series.

I on the other hand give them something of a pass because of this (it was funny. They trolled us all successfully). I emphasize "something" because it doesn't entirely excuse bringing family guy back to the airwaves, this BAFFLING obsession they have with tim and eric, or the cancellation of 12 oz mouse. (Also this "THEY HATE ANIME". By all accounts one of their favorite non-in house shows they've aired is FLCL.) Alot of this precieved animosity they have is because..to be honest the ratings, which is what t.v. lives and dies by, have never been particularly great for the saturday block. This may have something to do with how they've been picking up the rights to some pretty crappy shows for a while now. For every big o/ghost in the shell/flcl theres like five awful shows like wolfs rain. And what the hell is this kekkaiashi thing. Companies need to start looking at Sci-Fi, at least they have some ounce of respect for the shows they show. If you're referring to the sci-fi channel this is absolutely incorrect. The head of the network has blatantly said they want to move away from that genre, hence them changing their branding. One of their flagship shows is wrestling. They also didn't air the 4th of july twilight zone marathon this year, which is pretty much an institution since WPIX in new york used to do it. Oh and their anime block was even worse, with the exception of monster, because I think they were locked into some contract with a single company (or maybe 2) and could basically only air what they had in their catalog.

The Ani-Monday block is owned by Manga Entertainment, hence the reason they aired Ghost in The Shell: Solid State Society instead of [as].

I think we all wonder what AS's obsession with Tim and Eric is Sharp. Honestly AS needs to pick up Heroman, and mention that Stan Lee has something to do with it.

I on the other hand give them something of a pass because of this (it was funny. They trolled us all successfully). Well, you got us there. They chucked out the bait they knew we couldn't resist, and we bit -- oh, did we bite. Still, the fact that they were essentially trolling says a lot about their attitude. Family Guy makes me laugh once in a while, but it tends to kill that with indubitable grossity not long after. I sometimes wish Seth McFarlane would evaporate off the face of the earth. I have a similar opinion of the makers of almost every other program Adult Swim has produced. Except those feelings are even stronger. Much, much stronger. I forgive Family Guy because it made me laugh, even a little. The others can fry. Children's Hospital may summon forth an undead curse. Prepare ye pump-action shottys.
