How do you take an extremely emo series like Evangelion and cute it down? I mean, even Angelic Days may have been going too far.
The thing is, I know Angelic Days is godawful and the writer should be sent in front of a firing squad, but for some fucking reason, I still read it. God, I need help...
Peace.

I've never actually read it. Maybe if I stumbled across it online I might waste my time on it, but actually purchasing it seems a waste to me. It can't be that much worse than Evangelion itself, can it?

Yes, yes it is worse. Because one of the very few good things about Evangelion were the Evas...

...yeah, I think I've only seen the Evas like twice through five volumes. Its like a rogue episode of Degrassi, except with Japanese school children and much more depressing and annoying.

Oh, and I haven't bought a single volume of this. The original Evangelion manga I admit too, but no. I'm not as far gone as finding actually bought this with actually money.
Peace.

Every time they add another tentacle to the sprawling Eva franchise, the original one loses more and more worth.  ??)

A teeny bit, yes.

People nowadays are so caught up in the "It's Cool to Hate Evangelion Rabidly!" thing that I can't stand it, even though I'll admit that I probably would not appreciate the show that much anymore. However, I do owe it a lot of personal things, such as how it helped introduce me to a new world of anime, friends, and experiences.

I hated Eva long before it was cool to hate on it, thank you. Everything from the crappy robots that look like an NBA styled mecha going through massive 'roid rage to the consistent whiny natures of the major characters to the utter lack of true resolution to the plot or even some consistent backstory. The entire series is worth less than s-Cry-ed or 4Kids One Piece.

To be fair, I tend to think that Paradigm is one of the few corners of the internet where it is actually cool to hate Eva. If you were to do it on a major anime forum, you'd probably get a muttering agreement from a minority, and then get run out as a witch by the rest. Personally I went into Eva expecting to be blown away, and mostly it was just kind of disappointing. There were aspects of Evangelion I did like, like the Mech designs. I also liked the character of Asuka up until they turned her into a gibbering wreck with a horrible haunting past. I liked the symbology until I learned it was just tossed about willy-nilly without any actual understanding or proper placement.

I think I would have enjoyed it more if it had caught me when I was younger.

It's not terrible, or even bad for that matter, just far too overrated for it's own good.

This is exactly what I mean.

It was great when I was a freshman in high school, but prolly not anymore. And we all know that there are way, way worse animes out there, no matter what.
